Surprised to see the universal love for Heath. He was a player Collingwood invested in heavily with all the off field issues (betting saga, drink drive offences etc) and then decides to leave. Didnt even show up to the Copeland, when at that time he was still a contracted Collingwood footballer.

Hell, we are even paying some of his contract to play against us this year. Just shows how much he burnt the Collingwood bridge for a few extra bucks.

Gave us a great GF moment, and seven-eight years of great service but he is no better than Dale Thomas in my mind.

His brain farts were always competing with his ability, but he was never a money grubber. I think this hurt him which says a lot. Thomas was a great player but he calculated his last contract in sync with Free Agency, wanting to stay fresh etc. Like Franklin he wanted good coin but didn't want to go to a struggling team.

I doubt it. We sacked him, his brother and his uncle and we reputedly reneged on a coaching offer back in the day for his father when he was coaching Preston. I am not sure about his other uncle (Neville) who went to SA with John Cahil. He may be the only Shaw not dirty on Collingwood but I wouldn't bet on it.

So Tony Shaw hates Collingwood? It didn't happen post Rhyce and I doubt it will happen post Heath.

Tony recognised Heath had f*cked up, even though he thought moving Heath on was a mistake. Collingwood has been mother's milk for the Shaws and I doubt very much that the family will be dark on Collingwood.

Collingwood and Buckley certainly did put him on the outer but his own attitude contributed to it as much as anything,I am just glad we have done very well from the deal and at the end of day the club is what matters most.

Shame he had to go, was a little surprised that he was shown the door as it seemed a bit brutal at the time but it appears to be for the best for all concerned and certainly a win/win outcome.

All the very best Heater, enjoyed watching you play and think you've been an outstanding contributor to the team and will bring a huge amount of experience to the GWS kids. You've been an absolute champion :thumbsu:

+1

I'll miss you Shaw! Only respect, one of my absolute favourites over the years. The personality just made him better. That smother will be the greatest moment of football until the day I die

I'm not happy about you going Heater... not happy at all. Shouldn't have ever come to this! but best of luck and break a leg baby!!!

Heath Shaw gave us THE greatest Collingwood Grand Final moment in televised history.

Will always be a favorite son.
Phil Manassa's goal, Daicos's first qtr goal, Gavin Brown running back onto the ground and confronting Daniher, and Heath Shaw's smother. I choose Daicos's goal in 1990 because I was there and it was really freaky.. had no right to kick it and my mate got so excited he accidentally smacked an Essendon supporter in the back of the head when he jumped up to celebrate and we nearly got in a punch up which made it all the better as a memory somehow... Heater's smother is second though.... excuse me indulging myself here...

Heath you will have unlimited free beers when you finish up and come back in Melbourne.
Got the best out of yourself and the ultimate prize from small beginnings.
Hopefully the lessons learnt in the last two years allow you to mature and eventually get you into a leadership role up at GWS like I believe you always have been capable of.
