Just in from balmy Adelaide where all of us who went had an excellent time! One of the BEST EVER AWAY WINS this club has EVER had! The 2003 final all over again! And from a personal perspective, THE BEST INTERSTATE AWAY SUPPORT WE HAVE EVER HAD!

I'm still so excited & happy I probably won't sleep much tonight. I'm so proud of the boys once again showing the mental toughness to fight it out when Port looked to have their measure midway through the last quarter. Sure we had problems in defence. And we were very very lucky Port lost their only real reliable focal point up forward in Ebert midway through the last quarter. But to not only see us come back but to see youngsters like Moore & Schmidt kick the winning goals is just so exciting!

Footy Park on a sunny Saturday is a great place to watch the game. Port games are far more comfortable than Crow games, as there are spare seats & you can spread out. And contrary to their reputation the Port supporters were actually excellent. There was no nastiness or anything at all in the crowd with the Port supporters in the bays around us trying to outchant us, and losing!

From a personal perspective I cannot thank the club enough for what they are doing in putting time money & effort into developing interstate supporter & membership bases for the club. We now have just on 120 paid-up members in SA. And had more than 1000 supporters in Bay 140 ALL TOGETHER chanting & supporting the team very very vocally.

We had a really pleasant & interesting pre-match function at the West Lakes International before the game where Myles Baron-Hay & Stephen Brassel (who I swear can talk for 20 minutes non-stop without stopping for air ) spoke to us about various things. It is always great to meet the interstate fans who get to see the team only once in the year. Just like our brilliant fans in WA the mainly local SA Swans fans were not only great to be with, but were knowlegeable & passionate. The Port supporters I chatted to today at the SANFL said they were very surprised at how many of us there were as well as how loud we were.

This weekend was one of the BEST away trips I have ever done in supporting the Swans. To see us come back like we did (with our young guns leading the way!!!) is just awesome. To make a difference was even better. I think those of us who were there yesterday know what I'm talking about.

Good to hear you had a good time and a plesent expierence with Port Adelaide supporters. The crap that comes from opposition supporters about Football Park and Power supporters are 9 times out 10 people from people who have never been to a Port game before.

Hope you come again but next time we get the four points :p

Just a quick question, my girlfriend is a swans and Power supporter, but more swans as her dad was an old South Melbourne fan and she wanted to know with the Cheer Squad, why don't you have those big flags for games in Melbourne?

Must admit they looked pretty good, and the red and white with our teal did really stand out.

The reason is is that they are barred by the AFL Cheer Squads League. I'd love to wave my big triangle flag down here, but they have been watching what we do for years like hawks. I waved my big triangle one in the last 5 minutes of a game against Carlton a few years ago & NEVER heard the end of the end of it FFS.:mad:

The pole for the one I wave at games in Melbourne is technically also over 1.8metres, but it is so minimal I get away with it. ;)

Apart from at home games, Adelaide is the only place I can legally get away with waving my big flag these days. Even though I will be trying to get away with it in Perth in a couple of weeks as well. :D

JF
PS:- Want the experts for getting oversized flags in games in Melbourne, ask your own fans. They get away with it nearly every week (which I'm happy about, as Port like Sydney have a big flag culture at games) :p

I've just got home from Adelaide too - great game, great win, great weekend. The crowd around me was getting so feral as the game wore to a close that I was moderately anxious about getting out of the ground in one piece. Well, not really, but there were some pissed off fans. But my later encounters with people who confessed to being Port supporters were fantastic. From the barman in the restaurant I went to on Saturday night, to a couple of people in McLaren Vale wineries yesterday, all they could talk about was what a great game it was. Very friendly and very gracious.

Shhh, don't tell everyone. Yeah it was good to see so many Sydney supporters at the game, not sure our fans are feral as your backpackers that go to the SCG, but thats just IMO.
Another great game, great for the neturals and the winning team, but we have had 3 great games now, and lost them all. :(
Give me a boring game and the 4 points back ;)

Anyway, good luck for the rest of the season, and make sure I get my beer JF for doing your banner, next time I'm in Melbourne.

PS Thank god they took that drum, over sizes flags fine, but don't bend the rules too far :D

JF, can you tell me what happened with the drum on Saturday?
I was enjoying chanting along with it in the first quarter, then all of a sudden it was gone. :(
Security said that my drumstick was a potential projectile. Plus cheer squads technically are not allowed musical instruments. Which is a wank, because my drum got all the Swans fans in time & getting into it from the outset. Plus it fired up the Port fans around us in the surrounding bays, which lifted the atmosphere in general. :thumbsu:

I knew I took a risk getting it in. The fact they just told me to stop using it rather than confiscate it completely was a sign that they trusted me with it. It had the desired effect though. Everyone was forced to pay attention when I was getting a chant going. So even when the drumming stopped, the chanting didn't.

We had 2 of them against Essendon. An Essendon supporter had a sook, so we drummed twice as hard to piss her off even more. The "!! !!! !!!! Sydney" one works a dream when you get the drums going. We had 70000 join in at the Prelim Final in 2003; best adrenalin rush ever I swear!:D

"I'm at the football. Ssh down the front! You're making too much noise!"
