i agree with AWG, especially Chris Judd, he is currently sitting on a $7M contract, surely one day of the year he can take time out of his "busy" schedual to sign a few autographs for people who worship him.

I lined up for an hour to get his autograph only to get told when i reached the front of the que that he and the others were leaving. I soon made my way over to the tent which Waite and Grigg(in his rockstar "dolce&gabbana sunglasses)were signing autographs and once again as i got towards the front they decided to get up and leave. As Waite was walking out i asked him quickly can u please sign my jumper he then said something under his breath which appeared to sound like "F*** Off", i stood there in disbelief and then slowely made my way out of the tent to where a few people had made a circle around Grigg. I asked him quickly aswell for an autograph and he said no more today, perhaps the sunglasses had gone to his head.

Later when i got home, i thought about it and then i thought about the speech which Dick Pratt gave , he urged that the all the supporters get on board and buy a membership and then i thought how is the club supposed to recieve support if they are treating their supporters in such a way. This is just unacceptable. I will be taking this futhur, a letter of complaint will be sent to the club.
You'd think a guy in his second year who's only played a few games and is yet to establish himself at AFL level would be happy to sign as many autographs as he is asked. He'd hardly be the most in demand player for autographs compared to the more established players. If he's like that now how will he be in a few years when (hopefully for his sake) he's a more established player.

i find it funny that people are complaining about this day!

what do you expect, no matter what the club would be struggling to organise the day 100% to cater for everyones wishes

for example....they could have expected 5,000 people and the extra 2,000 could have blown everything out of whack.

you may also say why didnt they have players like Judd in there own line for autographs?....well the group scenario is the better option than having him in his own line, can you imagine the people that wanted Murphs and Judds signature but lining up in 2 different lines to do it...it would have taken twice as long.

im sure someone out there is complaining there werent enough sausages at the bbq. get over it!!

if you want merchandise, go when its not as busy, why go on the family day when you know every tom, dick and harry will want to buy something and it will be packed!

and if you seriously want a autograph, go to bloody training, most of the time its on a saturday and you can get as many as you like and the players are more than helpful.

geez people......are we really at the point where we have to complain about waiting to get a signature etc. Some people will be glad to sleep on the concrete for a few days just to get a grand final ticket. waiting in line for an hour or so isnt that bad and i waited 2 hours to get a book signed by Kouta at his book release and it was worth it as i got not just a book but a photo with the god!!

You have hit the nail right on the head. Unfortunately the complaints from some posters are just a reflection of today's society, where people want everything yesterday, where mistakes are always somebody else's fault & where people who don't get their own way are so quick to have a whinge. In the words of The Rolling Stones' song 'you can't always get what you want'.

I wonder how some of these people would have coped going to Princes Park in the '70s & '80s when, to ensure a decent spot at some of the bigger matches (eg Carlton v Collingwood, Carlton v Richmond) you would have to start queueing at 8.00 - 8.30 am on Saturday morning, even though the gates didn't open until 11.00 am. Quite regularly the gates would be locked between 12.00 - 12.30 pm because the ground was full & you would hear people ringing the radio stations to complain about being locked out because they didn't arrive at the ground until between 1.30pm - 2.00pm.

Part of supporting a great & popular team like Carlton is large crowds (even at family days) & the fact that our players are in demand as much from the corporates/sponsors/media, as they are from the members/supporters. Chris Judd will be a Carlton player for a minimum 5 years. That equals a lot of opportunities to get his autograph or a photo. Good things come to those who wait.

No we dont own them, but signing autographs and making fans happy is just as much a part of their job as playing football is. It's all part of the package. It's one day a year, when it's advertised as a Family Day, a day to come and meet the players, have stuff signed, young kids go to meet their idols. One day a year that these guys are formally required to spend time with fans and give something back to the people who make the club.

AWG do the maths:

Let's say between their lunch break and the presentation, on a day that goes from 10-4, they could realistically be expected to spend four hours of solid autographing. That's 14,400 seconds.

There were 7,000 people there. That's just over 2 seconds per fan if everyone was to get their turn.

Of course that's not even nearly feasible, so some people are going to miss out; and to suggest that that constitutes a shortcoming on the part of the players not at all reasonable IMO.

'.....but if you try sometimes, well you just might find, you get what you need'.

Maybe learning to appreciate the time and personal contact with the players of the great CFC is just what some of the fans need?

Or maybe the 'try sometimes' means getting down to training and then 'you get what you need' -time with and pictures and autographs of players?

I popped into the Family Day yesterday, late, en route to a close mate's wedding. After seeing what was there and having a wedding to get to, I was in an out in a few minutes. So I found the time to get to (the end of) training this morning. There were maybe 5 other people there and one after another the players had all the time in the world for me...

(I'm asking for it aren't I? -MSR do mods have any kind of witness protection program I could enroll in?)

I agree in principle, and working with the general public on a day-to-day basis I agree wholeheartedly about people demanding something for nothing, feeling entitled to it. And I definitely wouldn't get snappy with a player just because they wouldn't drop everything they were doing just for my sake. But from a personal PoV I know that if I waited in line for over an hour for an autograph, only to have that player go home before I get a chance to see them, I'd be annoyed too. If I got what I waited for, no problem. Or if I knew well in advance that I would probably miss out, I'd be disappointed but would understand, and would at least know I can use that extra time to do something else. But it sounds as though there was no real warning, no contingency plans in place for this. People were just expected to wait, and then the players were told to bugger off with them still waiting (correct me if I'm wrong). Perhaps they could've found a way to let people down a bit easier.

Lets make it easy.

The only ones to get an autograph are kids 15 and under.
1 sig on 1 thing.
Period.

My mate who is a blues fan went with his 4 year old daughter. Went to buy a kid's jumper wiuth Judd's number on it and was told the price would be $100.

Bit rich for a kids jumper.

He rang the club and was told it was the price for a replica judd jumper - when he asked what the price for an adult "real" (not replica) judd jumper was he was told $220.

A rugby league following friend of ours recently purchased a stock, standard Gold Coast Titans jumper for her 8 year old daughter & had to pay $100 for that. No number on the back, just a 'run of the mill' jumper. A sign of the times I'm afraid.

A sign of the times that some clubs willl bleed their supporters.

You can imagine the size of a jumper that would fit a 4 yo girl.

and by the way vaffa06 if you had of lined up for over an hour to get jarrad waites signiture only to get told to "**** off" then you would be complaining too. The fact that jarrad is only second rate compared to the likes of Fevola, Stevens and Judd should give him no right to be so arrogant, not that those 3 players named can be.

Its getting to that stage of marketing...unfortunately this is happening with all codes, in lots of countries...NFL jerseys are 300 of for a Genuine, 70 for a fake/replica!

And the soccer in the UK is embarrasing. We are lucky that prices for admission to games is still relatively cheap compared to some other places...

If the purchaser is wise they buy a size 6 jumper which the child gets at least 2 years out of. Works out at $50 a year, with the quality of the jumper ensuring it will easily last the 2 years & can then be framed & put on the wall in the poolroom. Bargain!!

Not having a crack at you personally, but it shits me this comparison of what goes on overseas as some sort of justification for shit going on here. Not relative so don't ****ing give it to me.

we still talking bout queues ?

i took my boys down to the ground today as my eldest turned 6 today. Fev & juddy walked up to the gates & i asked for a foto & signature on his jumper to which they both obliged. Fev even asked my lad how old he was, could only hold up fingers he was that nervous at meeting his hero. didnt really know who judd was but no doubt will soon learn thru me constantly yelling at the tv how great he looks & plays in a navy blue jumper.

moral to the story - head down on any training day & get as many signatures as you like !
