No we cant do that.... you can only put someone on long term injury list for minimum 8 weeks...So wat happens when Maric pulls a hammy and is out for 3 weeks??? Orren will be the first upgraded.
Alright if we need to upgrade Orren, I would probably upgrade Petterd over Lonergan as we're short on forwards.

I reckon we will go with Lonergan purely because he is a mid and there are more spots on the ground for mids and thus more chance we will lose a mid due to an injury. Plus Lonergan fits the type of player Dimma likes... he is hard inside mid giving protection to our better ball users and he allows us to take time with Foley to get him right.
Listed players in Nahas, King, A Edwards, S Edwards, O'Hanlon are all ahead of Pettard at this stage.

The fact is Oren is upto it on the form he showed last season. We need to start to forget about trying to "find" what players "can" do and force them to demand to show it. IMO Oren is ahead of Mr X on last years performance and hence he should assume mumber 1 in the VFL until Mr x proves otherwise.

i see your point and sort of agree however if the powers that be decided to keep him instead of graham and browne then they need to back him in for at least the first half of the season(vfl).we already know what oren can do but his age is not on his side. remember our previous rucks werent given time to settle into the no1 ruck position bc they had to give all of them a go.

Yep but the days of trying to develop a ruck is over IMO. Orren is our number 1 back up he will be given the number 1 ruck spot in the VFL so he is in form if we need him.
Personally I think we will go for another ruck option in the free trade /off season at the end of the year or give Orren 1 more year. Derickx will be given oppurtunity but its more up to him then us just giving him a spot that others are more quailfied. Orren has been a top ruckman in the VFL for along time.

Petterd is a lock...IF fit will play round 1 even if it as sub.He has ex factor up forward can see him helping us win games with 2 to 4 game contributions...Seriously talented can mark, kick a goal & tackling pressure in FWD line will please the Gaffer! We did take him first selection in the Rookie draft which may be a guide to where club sees him..Just gotta get him fit!

Depends on a fit Foley IMO.... if he is ready to go then Pettard gets the second spot, If Foley is struggling to get ready for round one and looks vunerable then I say we upgrade Lonergan instead.
Only Lock in I can see is Orren.

Haven't we got 2 spots available regardless if Foley is fit? If Foley doesnt come up in the early rounds(8) we will have 3 spots available?

We hae 2 now..... If we put Foley on the LTI list then we have 3.

I'm making the statement that Orren gets the first spot.... and Pettard and Lonergan are fighting for the last spot.

Sorry If I confused you.

very well could be but i dont think recruiting raw rucks is gone as why would we get mcbean?

I would have taken a mid with that pick, we will spend 3-4 years trying to work out if Mcbean is going to make it. From all accounts he is talented enough. I just dont see the value in them. Just too risky. We will see more Rucks came through second tier comps in the future IMO. Unless they are exceptional.

I think Richmond may reward / promote the player that has shown the most form over the summer and preseason comp, however, I do not see the need to promote players unless we are forced into it due to injury. Why promote any of these players unless their form demands that they are promoted. This is a group of players that have not been able to display enough form that their prior clubs wished to retain them.

Big O is the only player at this stage that could be given a gig without having to show a lot and that may just be because Maric may not be fit enough to shoulder ruck duties on his own. As for the others, would you bring them onto the list if they are not required to cover a Long term injury? I wouldn't. No value in it. I'd like to here others thoughts on why we should promote any of these without them showing any form. Why do any of these players deserve to be promoted?

I do tend to agree with you regarding Rucks being risky picks. I wasn't too happy with Vicks taken at pick 8, and it'll still be a few years before we know whether it was worth it or not. But do the Rucks that come thru the 2nd tier comps have the ability to play the forward role well?
One thing he has going for Liam is that is is mobile and can play forward. I could see in a few years that Vicks spending alot more time in the Ruck, with Liam playing the developing tall forward role whilst he develops the mature body for the ruck.

Basically less rucks will get picked up in the ND, so if you are a ruckman you will have to learn your trade some where else. A Ruck/Forward will always have extra value.
Looks like Nicnat is out for the start of the season.

What will happen though is establishd Ruckmans value will actually increase especially because of free agency.

We will fill the list so 2 will be upgraded by the start of round 1.... I'm not sure but if you dont use those spots then you lose them???

i think that with the change in the ruck rules its going to go to a more ruck/rover type of ruckman from now on. bearing this in mind with the exceptional skill mcbean has, i think this was a consideration behind this pick.

I made the statement earlier in this thread and I believe I am correct that only one player can be upgraded prior to round one and another at round eleven. So as I posted I think we can promote one player before the season proper and I agree in that I think we will promote a player. But the question is do any of them deserve to be promoted? These mature players were let go. Should we not make each one of them display some consistent form before considering them for promotion to the senior side? I'd like to see some form displayed in the NAB cup or at Coburg first. What do you think?

Bloody oath... make them bleed for that spot or spots.

After Angus was traded, whoever we drafted as a ruckman was almost guaranteed to be elevated. I also remember the Big O saying (before we trialled him) he wanted to be on a senior list only. It was not worth it financially being a rookie and trying to feed his family, he was better of with his business. Maybe we reached a compromise ?

i'd say we guarenteed him elevation! would have to promote Lonergan and Foley won't be fit for seasons start

STEPHENSON is a lock IMO. Derickz will be given every opportunity to stake a claim on the number one ruck spot in the pre-season, but there's no way we are going into the season with just two senior, mature bodied ruckmen. I just can't see it.
As for the other spot, heart says Petterd for a bit of x-factor, but the smart money would be on Lonergan to play a midfield stopping role. Petterd has al the ability in the world, but will be made to earn a senior call-up!

Petterd is a pea-heart, if he gets elevated this club is going backwards. He's behind Knights, A.Edwards, O'Hanlon, McDonough and I have no idea why he was even rookied in the first place – well I do, Craig Cameron's little dees boner he carries around in his pocket every post-season.
