Let me share that I played under the biggest bitch that had favourites and was very lucky to have some good players in the team and I never gave less than 100%. if a sportsperson drops their head because of a coach then in my opinion it says more about them but I can't and haven't seen that in the team apart from those that that did drop their rating and preferred to sook.

I think that he has a lot to do in the next three games (over 12 days) to get inside their head and get them back to believing.

When the coach is biased in their decision making or have a hidden agenda.. the players are not stupid.. training feels like trying row up shit creek without a paddle.. that shit translates on game day.

That is where strength of mind comes in.
I was/am short and was determined to perform at my peak because I knew any excuse and I would be dropped to the seconds. Most likely why I see more in a player like Blair than most posters do. I don't give any outs outs to players than I do to coaches.

But to repeat, I don't know why Buckley sometimes doesn't try some outfield positional changes during games like Sheedy used to do. He was a master at it.

Actually, I haven't minded the discussion with you and no I don't live over the rainbow. You should have known me during Tony Shaw's coaching era but I have put my hand in my pocket every year for decades no matter where we have finished on the ladder and will continue to do so.

There is one area that I will agree with you and that is the area of our assistant coaches which I assume have been Buckley's choices and apart from Sanderson and Burns, don't really know what they bring to the club (viewing as an outsider).
Not sure that Rivers is the answer to our VFL team either based on what I saw on Saturday. The runner should have worked overtime but didn't.
Would love to catch up during a game at the G and discuss how we both see the first half of a game.

Whilst I'm sure you don't mean it that way I thought but you'll find Maggie one of the most honest posters going around, not sure lies and Maggie should ever be used in the same sentence.
Whilst I'm more with Maggie in her views on this topic, I'm just not as obsessed with the coach as others.
You have said you were never in favour of him fair enough but again not sure if I'd ever label Nathan as dishonest. I think he's a straight up and down guy who self improves.

If he's time comes it comes but Im sure he'll go with dignity - that's my take.

I'm Just not that obsessed about him as perhaps others are including your good self. Which is everyone's right if they want to be.

I just wait for the next game, works for me.

And I still want success but resigned to more years being disappointed than years happy. That's sport

Look at the attacks on Sidebottom.

I for one have never bagged the bloke.

A lot of his mishaps out there are coach related. Look at Adams game yesterday.. he'd get the ball and just looked shocked and disorientated when making a decision.

This all has to do with where the chess pieces are on the pitch.. they're all over the shop.

Clearly not a players wrong doing.. being instructed to run in ridiculous spots makes players look 2nd rate when trying to hit a target or set uo the play.

Buckley's signature all over this mob. If Buckley is moving the Queen on the chess board.. the king.. the soldiers in ridiculous spots.. how on earth are they going to dispose of the football.. They're out! Next game.. same shit again.. it's been going on for too long.

I remember certain positional moves that i still scratch my head about today. I think it was the game after Rich where Macaf tore Cotch to shreds. We fly up to freo.. then i see Macaf lining up on Walters in the 50.. Walters destroyed him. I mean what the hell was that.

It just goes on and on and on.

Don't want to be seen as butting in and/or speaking for Maggie (will remove if not seen as appropriate), but as someone who has played sports their whole life and have seen a couple of average coaches with bias, I would constantly put in 100%, because I had a chip on my shoulder where I wanted to prove them wrong and also if you didn't perform (especially as an experienced player), you'd get benched.

Edit: My main point is that while not everyone is the same, leaders have to set the tone. If they drop their heads, well then it's not surprising when others follow suit.

I very much doubt that the club is considering a contract extension, and in the end that's all that really matters. I don't think there is much doubt that the players and coaches are feeling the pressure and that it is manifesting in our performance. That pressure can only be relieved by stringing some wins together, something that looks unlikely at the moment.

I agree with that entirely.

I also agree with your other thread about the fish rotting at the head, that the power's that be have left Bucks on a hiding to nothing coming into this season as well. The one thing Buckley needed was stability and support instead he was given the Gubby Allen total snafu, bizarre recruitment and contract terms (even if Bucks had a say in the recruits he didn't on conditions and length of the contracts) and energies diverted to sideshow fluff like the womens team and the netball ffs!

All of which reeks to me of arrogance, hubris and a total disconnect with the board with the mood of a large section (in fact I'd say the majority now) of the supporter base, who just want to see the football side relevant and successful again.

It's a total mess.

It's a result driven discussion. I don't subscribe to the view that Bucks can't coach, but I can see that things are not working at the moment. I don't pretend to know what will happen over the next six weeks.

Thank you for talking to me earlier today. I have decided, after a bit of toing and froing, to “pen” something for you to pass along to anyone who may be interested (I do understand there will have been a lot of correspondence over the past couple of weeks). I have been unusually unsettled about my Collingwood feelings over the course of this season (albeit a fleeting one) and I have reached the time I need to express my feelings to the club. To put this in context I , along with my sister, mother and father have been Social Club (at Vic Park) members and the Legends Members (since the inception of this membership) for over 20 years and have 8 memberships between us. To my knowledge there has been no communication to the Club from us in regards to the vision of the Club nor its performance over the duration of our unfaltering membership. I have reached a position of critical mass.


In my less than educated opinion Collingwood has overstated its status. The Club (therefore you) has attempted to sell a story, as recently as the Anzac game, that we are a finals side. A side that is relevant to the here and now. How can someone as savvy as Gary Pert be so out of kilter with reality ? Have the ego’s within the club (of which there are many and which have enabled a sense of strength and combativeness) become an obstruction to seeing the obvious ? Is the club losing perspective as to what its primary point of being is ? We are a football club that is beholden to the members. This was the mantra that our esteemed Pres lived by but the current perception in the bleachers is that this has gone by the wayside. Do you really know what we want ? Do we know what we want ? Are our visions of our Collingwood aligned to your vision of our Collingwood ? The externally apparent indicators would suggest that there is a significant divide somewhere. We feel like a listless vessel. This just is not what Collingwood in the Eddie era is. One could argue that some things have been done poorly under this administration but the positives have always far outweighed the negatives. Never was there a question of Direction. I think my greatest angst at the moment is there is no clearly articulated direction. There is lots of rhetoric. Lots of intelligent spin but not a feeling of singular, unified direction. We appear to have become very good at choreographed announcements and beautifully orchestrated events. They were great as garnish to a well performed on field but in isolation they have the opposite effect on me. They do nothing other than give air not substance to an appetite for effort and improvement.


I could be another whinging member with the appeals for a change to coaching staff, game plan, strength and conditioning staff and any other immediate fix for instant gratification. I am not interested in this and have faith that the club is capable of self-analysis, introspection and according action even in the midst of the apparent “boys club” that has eventuated at all levels of the club. My request is simple. Please do something to stop the apathy that is festering amongst your loyal, devoted fans. We are heading towards not caring and this has a long lasting deleterious impact far greater than the short term issues. I believe that we have lost focus on what we are. We are not Barcelona, we are not Manchester United. We cannot be a global sporting phenomenon as we are not a sport that engenders global interest. This narrative is not relevant to us. Please stop this folly. Our goals can be lofty but must not be contrary to our humble beginnings. We must not forget we are a football club first , second and third. Our social awareness is commendable, our altruism important but the primary reason that the members join the club is to follow a football team. Everything stems from this simple fact. We are drifting. You are losing us. I did not believe this was possible. We appear to be leaderless on the field, in the box and in the office.


Can someone that knows a little spend a small period of time with me to educate me as to the direction ? What, other than history, is the reason for me to maintain my emotional and financial commitment ? I see no signs of improvement or knowledge as how to improve. Convince me otherwise. I could ramble for too long and this achieves nothing.

A couple of things I would take you up on, though.


Our football department strategy – a draft-led rejuvenation of the list – has been well known to all, almost from the time it was developed, at the end of 2013. It remains in place and we remain confident it will produce the results we all want.


Which is not to say we are simply waiting for progress to arrive. Football is at the core of our existence and not a day passes without great thought and effort being put to improving our team and the program around it.


When I spoke on ANZAC Day of continuing to aim for finals I did so in circumstances that are very different to the circumstances now before us. No-one could foresee then that by round six we would have 15 players injured, that we would have shuffled 16 players through our back six or that we would be less experienced and younger than sides such as Carlton, as a result.


Against the Blues, for example, our attack consisted of Ben Crocker (0 matches), Mason Cox (2 matches), Darcy Moore (15 matches) and Jesse White (returning to the team after being groomed in the VFL for a role in defence). This, I assure you, was not a formation designed as much as forced upon us by the absences of Dane Swan, Jamie Elliott, Travis Varcoe and Jeremy Howe, who was required to play back due to the incredible number of half-backs and deep defenders lost to injury.


Much of the strength, experience and talent within squad that gave us reasons to be optimistic in 2016 is, for the moment, unavailable. This is not a lack of direction but personnel.


As I suspect you well understand, we compete in a heavily legislated sport that works against sustained success. We are trying, in so many ways, to defy the system in which we compete so it is harsh to suggest that when we lose games we are turning away from, or cutting ourselves adrift from, our members and fans.


From membership ticket price freezes to our significant investment in new media technologies that open up our ability to talk to or connect with our members and fans, anywhere, any time, we are focussed constantly on making the experience of being a Collingwood supporter a richer one.


We want you, and everyone else who shares your passion for Collingwood, to be proud of all that your club does, which includes staying true to our humble beginnings by trying to give back.



I welcome your feedback, because we must listen to people like you, but also because it tells me that you remain passionate about, and invested in, Collingwood.

Every club when they lose have supporters who bag everything.
Some love it when we lose.
Some genuinely are just frustrated.
But whatever, it's just social media and as strong as some are on here it may not remotely correlate to what the real decision makers (ie Ed) really are going to do.

Personally I think Ed's time is done, but if he's there I still want us to succeed.

And I'm with you, I'd sign Nathan for another two years (ducks proudly) we finish what we started.

Oh, and if nothing else, the melts on here would be something else.

Begging your pardon but you are insane saintly. The writing is on the wall. The club needs a new direction in the coaches box and perhaps even at management level. It's as clear as day. Every aspect has gone off like a rotten egg. We have a half decent list that needs professional help fro someone outside of the club.
