If Milera as a mid ....why not Menzel?
Different skill set.

Also, at the moment, different level of fitness.

Given Menzel is underdone, I would prefer to play Milera ahead of him as a forward/midfielder. Can rotate with other mids, CC & Betts.

Milera is an exciting prospect but expecting him to jump into an AFL midfield and perform first up is a mighty big expectation.

Menzel is a forward .... Has played more of his football forward and endurance is not mid material at this stage

Milera is a mid who can play forward but could also play off half back in time

QUOTE: KNIGHTMARE PHANTOM DRAFT
#11 Carlton- Troy Menzel (SA – Mid/Fwd)
Height: 187cm, Weight: 77kg, DOB: 22/09/1994
Recruited from: Central District
Style: Steve Johnson
Player comparison:
Range: 2-12
Profile: Troy is the younger brother of Cat Daniel Menzel and is every bit as talented if not more so with greater midfield capabilities but like his brother has similarly had his injury troubles and concerning is that despite his tender age he has had LARS which may/may not concern clubs but knowing how many have had knee injuries post LARS (most frequently to the other knee) I do have injury concerns. On talent Menzel is every bit a top 10 quality prospect and will no doubt get drafted high as a result. Troy has probably played more through the midfield than his brother but as a forward is equally adept and dominant at u18 level. Troy is a highly productive midfielder/forward who stand out because of his awareness and decision making under pressure, is one of those players who is always composed and uses the footy well. Skill level excellent by both hand and foot. Athletically Troy is excellent with his combination of speed, agility and endurance which is very exciting. Even with this athleticism Troy doesn’t rely on it and is a really natural footballer rather than a pure athlete and because of this I see a strong future ahead of him at AFL level. Has also like Daniel showed great ability forward of centre and can hit the scoreboard as he showed during the u18 champs, great finisher around goal and like his brother is an excellent marking target. I suggest this is where he will start his career and with some luck hopefully he can work his way into a midfield rotation.

Kane didn't say now at any stage .......i just argued he should not be pidgeon holed as a forward .....which is silly

BTW apart from 2015 Stevie J has been playing midfield roles drifting forward ......would have played midfield earlier had it not been for his "dicky" ankle, that saw Collingwood pass on him as a trade

I didn't think we took any interest in phantom drafts around these parts. At least not since the Doedee affair.
Oh i think they're relevant in terms of player styles, strengths & weaknesses .......don't take any notice of the phantom rankings till two days b4 the draft ...where every phantom draft falls in line basically

I don't take any notice of phantom drafts full stop, I have no interest until we call out a name. I'm not sure I understand how they can be reliable and just a bunch of amateurs at the same time.

No ....they're regular U18 game watchers ......it's just that if you think every club selects players on talent, then more fool you .......they all select basically on needs , except top 4 teams, who do go talent

The phantom drafters fall out when it comes to what's going thu clubs minds for needs

He's not playing U18 football anymore

Might pinch hit in midfield in time but a forward every day of the week
He was talking midfield pre U18 championships .....and as a forward in the Championships

Yeah I get that and of course he has the talent to play midfield one day but looks a long way off currently ....

I'll be happy if he's fit enough to get a game up forward , think milera will be a midfielder sooner and I've got my eggs in that basket

I thought our strategy has always been 'best available'?

Can you post this link from only a couple of months ago for Wayne's-World. I'm not sure he hears me anymore. Noble flat out states we'll take best available which has largely been our strategy every time a strategy has been mentioned since the Rendell days. Surprised he spat it over that.

That's great and yes I hope he has midfield capabilities, but at this stage he a better forward and as long as he is a dangerous forward, I could handle short bursts/rotations in the midfield.

And I noticed you didn't put 'good endurance' in bold from that quote from Quiney. Obviously can't take all of that to the bank.

How do you interpret "best available" though? Surely we're beyond taking what the club says literally? We take the best available player for our squad, the thought process of which already has built into it the needs of the squad. Anyway, you have to say that you're taking the best player available. You can't come out of the draft saying, "We rated some other bloke higher, but we needed a defender so we took this guy." You're on a hiding to nothing.

Best available talent. Has always been the policy. Remember when we were stockpiling medium talls at draft time. It's always been the way and to suggest that the line for that policy is drawn between the top 4 and the rest is absurd.
