The AFL could use the tv money to fund the academies.

The clubs could still run them.

Then the discount could be removed.

I like how you choose to ignore assistance rendered to teams like Hawthorn or Carlton or Collingwood. I'm sure you and the other poster were claiming they were "merely" X years removed from premierships at the time too because of the Saints, Dogs and Melbourne, right?

an additional round 1 selection every year or better , the academies are worth that much and have totally wreck3ed any fairness in the draft.
Of course the effects won't be readily apparent for 3-4 years as the batch of players being drafted now comes through.

The Academies dwarf any priority pick, this is every year, regardless of ladder position.

There is a lot of baseless dribble in this thread. The change the AFL made yesterday was substantial in terms of watering down any excess benefit from the academies.

Just no sense of scale of proportion, magnitude, the priority picks and father son have had pretty minimal impact, most clubs maybe getting a decent father son every 10 years . The Academy is producing the same amount off talent for GWS THIS YEAR as father sons and priority picks have produced in 20 years for any club. The Acamdenics are at least 10 times and more like 20 times the impact.

this constant bringing up of very very very small apples versus the massive runaway train the academies are. seesh how about a little realism and honesty.

the father sons and priority picks are equal for all clubs. they do not favour particular clubs,. While the start up clubs doit really get a chance early the start up concessions cover that. And while some clubs did get screwed on the start up concessions, like Brisbane, Brisbane got a very generous zone selection system which delivered a large slice of talent that basically built their 3 peat. There was no particular inequity in the father/son or priority systems available to all clubs on an equal basis. So there is no need what so ever to 'compensate' the northern clubs for this.

I don't mind the changes to the system, EXCEPT that it is effective immediately. Trades made last year (by gold coast) have just had their value changed

Yeah, that is slightly annoying... If you are going to change stuff, you surely need to give notice.
