We dont need money or resources. What we should ask for is that for every bias disgraceful free kick teams like Geelong get we get 1/2.

In the course of a season that would add up to 20 or 30 goals a season.

Robbed of alot of momentum again.

McGuire thinks we're a threat this year with the way he's continualy trying today to say the umpiring has been brilliant. Actively trying to hide the slaughter so it continues.

but having said that tonight I'm reminded (and on the wrong end of) of visiting teams to FP in its hey day, place full crowd screaming and the opposition appears like rabbits caught in spot light at times

We dropped our heads after the Talia deliberate decision.

It was Round 2, 1997 all over again. And we need a similar spray.

I agree with this.

It was free kicks at CRUCIAL stages of the game that went against is, which ultimately led to us being on the backfoot.

Early in the 4th Matty wright is on the forward 50 and gets slammed into the turf by not 1, but 2 geelong players who both fall into his back. No free paid whatsoever and they go down and kick a goal from the rebound.

2 minutes later Geelong bomb it into their 50 to no one. Sloane is trying to get underneath it but has his arm held and can't get a proper run at it. Geelong scoop up the ball and crumb another goal.

I tell you what I was ****ing fuming and had pretty much given up by then.

I know it's easy to say when it's your own team and you take more notice, but how many ****ing times has this club been d*cked by not receiving frees, or frees going against us when we are neck and neck, and it always seems to be against the best sides too. I'm in no way blaming the loss on the umpiring, just pointing out that whenever the game is in the balance, the calls never, ever seem to go our way and it makes it so much harder. The umpires have rolled us time and time again and it's really starting to get to me.

Any serious sport would have neutral umpires, ie- from neutral cities. But we're playing in the VFL remember

I took bad language to new heights during last night's telecast.

But, let's be honest about this. And this might be the 100th time I've said it. Our players are no good at drawinf free kicks. They just don't know how to do it. And it's never been addressed as an issue.

On the other side of the coin, Geelong's players have been VERY good at drawing free kicks for a long, long time. They just put themselves in positions where the umpire has no choice but to blow the whistle. EVEN Joel Selwood, whose tactics were going to specifically clamped down on this year, led the umpires on the same old merry dance last night. He just knows how to makes it appear impossible for the umpire not to blow the whistle - despite every single instruction those umpires were given. EVEN the commentary team were adamant Selwood was taken high a couple of times last night. It was like some of them had just landed on earth and were watching their first football game.

I keep saying it over and over - until we address the issue with our playing group, we will continue to suffer. We can blame it on bad luck or bad umpirin every week if we want.........

The other thing is, decisions are bound to go against you despite even your best efforts. Last night we had a couple of 50 metre penalties that resulted in goals for us. Did Geelong drop their heads? No, they just kept on marching on.

Getting off the canvas is not our speciality.

Sure, we could improve our 'skill' at drawing free kicks, but we shouldn't need to for the ones where they're pushing us in the back/falling on top of our players. Those ones are straight forward and so many of them that were just overlooked.

Obviously we got smashed either way, but not getting called for any of the in the back calls we should have was pretty frustrating.

The scragging and holding that Geelong got away with was unbelievable.

It was constant, at almost every contest, yet rarely ever paid.

Needed someone from our side to approach the umps during a break, or give away a fifty and blow up about it after yet after shitty on decision.

The umpiring wasn't against us last night, they just were paying **** all. We did get a few soft 50s too.
The point is though, that we got frees and 50s when we were in control. The calls against us, or not called at all were the ones that really hurt. A couple of times Danger was ridden hard into the ground, ball spills out picked up by the ducker, and a free kick is called on us. It was just rubbish.

We also got away with several throws.

The umpiring wasn't great, but it didn't favor one team, it was just crap, like our ball handling.

I noticed a few times that we would go up for marks and Geelong defenders would quickly tug or slap our arms, then let go, then do it again and let go, multiple times before the ball actually reached the players. Worked on Johnston and other forwards numerous times.

If it worked, why didn't we do it also?

Too nice? Too stupid? Combination of both?

I've said this before on the Board but I'll say it again ...

I used to be involved in umpiring and was in the changerooms quite a few times for AFL games at Footy Park. Every single Victorian umpire came over saying 'we can't listen to the crowd, we can't listen to the crowd' so they ended up just not paying anything on the basis they didn't want to give in to the crowd ... even the 90% of the time the crowd was right.

Both Port and us.

Noticed in last weeks games that they seem to be letting that go a ton, especially in the contests. Seems like they've been instructed to just kind of ignore it as long as it keeps the ball moving.
