King was very good I thought but having said that the Tigers aren't exactly the ruck kings of the competition, so you can't really draw too much of a conclusion. Likewise Charlie - played well, especially in the link man role, but under almost no pressure.

Man I forgot Kingy was playing tonight. Probably would've tuned in a bit longer. I started watching the 2nd quarter but got bored so chucked on the GF DVD again.

You missed nothing, it was an awful, awful game to watch, and it deteriorated as it went on. The Tigers played some of the worst footy I've ever seen from an AFL team. The only highlight was a very nice mark by one of the Tiges (was it Kelvin Moore?) and some fine play by Dal Santo (again under no pressure). The Darwin game looked a bit better.

Good but both still did not do much we already knew they could not do. King battled hard and tapped well. Had good disposal. However he still can not jump. In the first quarter Richo was able to leap over him and mark too easily. He certainly could not do that against Ottens or Blake (who may get out bodied easily but certainly would not be jumped over) in the 'hole'.

Gardiner was getting huge wraps but again not for anything ground breaking. He worked extremely hard to get in the play and on the end of hand balls, etc and led up really well. However despite getting so much of the ball he was still unable to really hurt Richmond with what he did with it.

Gardiner was critical in transferring the ball from the back to the forward half.

He played a great game and was close to BOG at virtually CHF for us.

21 disposals, 10 marks and 1 goal.

Not much opposition, but if he can contribute half those numbers on a weekly basis he will be a good pickup.

King was solid and showed that his GF was not a one-off.

See ya next week :thumbsu:

Gardiner is absolutely hated on this board so trying to say something good about him will always end in abuse and stupidity.

I thought he was a good pickup for you guys. He is always a fringe player but as a 16-22 player I think he did alright. He was quiet often in a forward line at Geelong that relied heavily on him playing way out of his depth at CHF against much bigger opponents.

Chaunce! What a guy!

Shame we got rid of him.

If only he'd got a gig instead of Hank in the Port game...

He'd still be with us and we woulda gone unbeaten since round 5.

Ahh well, good luck to the big fella.

Credit where credit's due! Charlie played really well. He took the first option when he got the ball. As someone said during commentary he worked hard and except for Reiwoldt the saints forward line has lacked that over the last few years.

Good luck to 'em both.
Hopefully Charlie can provide some humour for us all... :D

I don't hate Charlie... he is one of the nicest guys going around...i wish him all the best at St.Kilda..:thumbsu::thumbsu:

- join the club, that makes 2 of us. I never thought he deserved the absolute shit he coped on this board. To me he was miles ahead of Hank, Kingsley and a swag of shit players we had in our forward line. He is a handy HFF player, mature, etc. Will go alright at the sainters...

Scotty you are absolutely correct. I'm a glass half full type of a guy, I think Gardiner was good for us due to the fact he never gives up. Plus he was played way out of his depth at Geelong, was expected to be the 'next' one.

However IMO, if the saints play him as a HFF in the lead up role, (similar to what Kelly does now for us), he could be quite serviceable.

Both Kingy and Charlie did their bit and I think the Saints would be happy considering it cost them pick 90. In all reality, Charlie wasn't going to play much senior footy at the cattery so letting him go was a win-win situation. Kingy probbly could've soldiered on for another couple of years but it'll be interesting to see how the big fella's body holds up after a fair few years with limited success (injury wise). If all goes according to plan, the King v Blake duel next week will be one to watch!!!

The other ex-cat to impress was the one that got away, Scotty Thompson. He was named as the Kangas best in the Age playing at CHB. He certainly would've been a handy back up this week if we had've snared him on draft day.

Good to see the Saints flooding in Round 1 of the NAB Cup.

Yep, flooded and still won by 40 points and kicked 16 goals, with mostly a Casey Scorps side in. Will take that every week. Good luck today Catters.

Fair call, Charlie did have a very good game. Kingy was alright too, good luck to him.

Was it just me, or did Charlie look as thin as a rake with no muscle compared to what I remember??

Good to see the Saints flooding in Round 1 of the NAB Cup.

He looked similar to last year. He had a few runs on the ball last year in the VFL so fitness certainly wasn't the problem. As a lead up forward he was probably fighting for a spot with Chappy and Johnno where as a KPP he was behind Moons. Nath and Hawkins so the move elsewhere was the best thing for him.

Geelong's game plan doesn't suit the long lead to the wing style that the Saints play. It was Charlie last night and Roo will do it throughout the year with Charlie assisting where possible.

I was critical of him but "hate". I don't think so.

I just did not think that he was an AFL player. At least, certainly not in one of the top AFL sides. I.e. Geelong.

Against Richmond. Round One of the NAB Cup.

As good as Charlie was I doubt he'll get too many games this year (barring injury to Roo - given history almost inevitable!). He plays essentially the same role, a similar (but less talented) player in many ways. A forward line with him, Roo, Kosi, and Gehrig is starting to look packed, and I'm not sure he has the speed or fitness to displace any of the midfield.
