When we tank we still refuse to lose the Carlton :D

Hope the draft picks are worth it. We need forwards to replace Roo & Kosi.
Then the Bulldogs finish below them and take Tom Boyd and every Saints supporter puts their fist through the nearest wall. :thumbsu:

We'll trade for Jack Watts, he'll be no good until he's 30 like Roo anyway :p

Ah well, they're kids.
Oh god, the umpiring was terrible! Not just for Carlton, for both teams. The first two freekicks of the game weren't even freekicks!
Haha good on ya :thumbsu:

Carlton were shit. We were shitter... ;)

Agree bout the umpires. Truly horrific that game.

Please let this be so :(.

Assuming the ladder stays as is, I can't see either GWS or Melbourne taking him. Not like they're short on key forwards.
I reckon GWS will. They have enough mids. Cameron could play as a 3rd tall. Imagine that forward line in 5 years... Boyd, Patton and Cameron. Ridiculous.

After yet another sizzling 'Premiership quarter' it looked for all the world that Geelong would win another famous miracle game. But it wasn't to be. It was Collingwood that stole a leaf from Geelong's handbook on how to win a tough, close match by applying the same guts and determination in a situation that seemed lost. The absence of Steve Johnson and James Kelly in the midfield was significant, but in all fairness the Magpies deserved this. 13 points up at the last break and momentum on its side seemed to point to another Geelong victory. A goal to extend that lead in a short dominant spell early in the last quarter would have done it, but this time the goal didn't come, this time it was the opposition doing to Geelong what Geelong normally does to the opposition. It's not exactly the loss the Cats needed to have but it's a reality check nonetheless and another tough match that will benefit the younger players in the group. For the neutral observers it was a great spectacle, for Collingwood it was another dose of bragging rights but for Geelong it was further confirmation, though it's depth was challenged, that it takes something special to beat this extraordinary side. Collingwood provided that 'something special' and there can be no compaints, no excuses and, above all, no panic from the Cats. Geelong will move on ...... hopefully with an extra boost from it's usual suspects in the form of match winners Johnson, Kelly and Paul Chapman.

Going to the game tomorrow night. Hopefully Sydney can put on a decent effort at the G this time around.

I keep thinking its a saturday night game, I'm not use to Sydney playing on Friday nights :p

Unabashed EQ fan reporting for duty, what was the problem with the Cotchin article?
There wasn't anything inherently wrong with the article, although she could've prefaced the 'retirement' remark by saying it was tongue-in-cheek. Obviously the headline didn't help. My comment was more of a reference to how the public (especially Bigfooty) perceive most football journalists. One tiny error or one inflammatory comment from the big name journos out there and we get 3 days of them being bashed from pillar to post and their really good articles (read the player profile articles done by Caro and Robbo generally on the weekend and you'll realise how good they are) are never acknowledged.

Sure, Quayle has runs on the board and her articles are great, but if Robbo or Caro wrote the Cotchin article we'd never hear the end of it.

Never read the Hun, so can't comment on Robbo, but if Caro had written it it would have been a very different article. EQ (as well as Martin Flanagan) writes about people in the game and their journeys, Caro writes about the politics behind what happens at a football club or in the league itself, and does so in a way that sets off every one of my alarms left over from the old "Year 12 Opinion Writing Trickbag"

When a writer forces me to filter everything they're saying through a sieve of cheap literary techniques and outright bias, it makes me less than inclined to agree with what they're saying, regardless of whether the point they're pushing is valid or not. The very fact they're trying so hard makes me suspicious.

I rest my case. While of course Caro writes predominantly about the politics and her negative angles infuriate most, she's written many a positive article about footballers' journeys and their backgrounds, just like EQ. I'd link you to them but it would frankly be a waste of everyone's time.

Just ignore my rant :)

It's the law of averages, though. She's spent most of her career being a sensationalist antagonist. Fair enough, it sells papers, but don't go crying when no one takes you seriously. Even when she happens to write a good article.

Well that's a bit precious. If you have a huge store of great player profiles written by Caro which blows my opinion out of the water, why not link them?

I'm not necessarily saying she doesn't write positive articles (though off the top if my head I can't remember any) but I don't think she would have written the same article if she had that Cotchin quote. It would have been "a massive wake up call to AFL headquarters" and "a shot across the bows to the games lawmakers" while "kids don't enjoy football anymore" etc. etc.

I have a ridiculous feeling that Melbourne might beat Freo in Freo....

:rainbow:

Im not prophet so don't change your tips or anything but I think we can win. or lose by 68. More likely

If you gave me money and told me to put it on Melbourne +68.5 I would just take your money.

Line was given at -62.5 and is already in 5c lol

They will be lucky to keep it to 99.

You're delusional Wise Guy Sam but that's ok you have to have some faith in your own team.

Sorry, it just irks me how over the last 12 months especially, Emma Quayle has been put on this pedestal where 95% of others journos are looked down upon. Who would've thought I could actually link you some articles referring to game day :p

Don'y post the negative ones... We'd need a whole sub forum dedicated to the number of links.

I can't shake the feeling that the Swans will get over the Pies tonight... I don't usually do it, but I am going to shake it off and tip the Pies, but geezus!!!!!!

That's not really as outlandish as my Dee's over Freo vision.

Maybe I will put a $20 on it. You can all call me the Profit Mohammed if it gets up.
