Which players do you all think will get the axe when it comes to time to delist??

Go South and I racked our brains the other night and well frankly we came up with half a squad.

Which 6 players would you delist?! And why....

Delist 6 eh??

At a pinch, without really spending ages thinking about it, I'd say:

Adam Richardson- Pretty self-explanatory, hasn't really been given much of a chance and doesn't look like getting one. Simply, his hands aren't good enough and not competitive once ball hits the ground.

Bryan Beinke- I think Bryan would be in danger. Hasn't done much wrong, but with our recent recruitments and the development of others, I can't see him being in our plans for 2002.

Ricky O'Loughlin- No explanation needed, simply useless.

Matthew Shir- I liked the look of this kid earlier this year but fell out of favour and then got dropped from Glenelg, the bottom SANFL club. Not a good sign.

James Byrne- Plenty of midfield depth at the club and despite good form with Glenelg and a few games off the bench with the Crows, I'd reckon he'd struggle to keep his spot.


Coming to think of it, with the retirements of Jars and Robran, how many do we need to delist??

I'm not sure....I thought the rules were you had to 6 delist players regardless.

Personally I think we should have to delist 6! Infact they could delist 12 and I'd be happy!

Well we only have 3 picks in the draft in November, so I would suggest that not too many would be going. I guess it depends on what we want to do in the pre-season draft really.

My picks to go would be:
(pretty much same reasons as ant except where noted)
Adam Richardson
Ricky O
Beinke

other candidates:
Shir
Skipworth (similar to J. Gallagher, but no where near as good)
Bown (was useless in the semi final v port in the SANFL, and didnt get much time with the seniors anyway + we dont lack tall players).

and possibly Byrne, although I hope not because I really like this guy. Sorta reminds me of Goodwin or Johnson from around 97 (although not quite as talented). Given a shot I think he would be a handy player for us.

We have lost Jarman and Robran to retirement.

Picked up four players and lost three.

However James Gallagher needs to go on the full list when Angwin goes back on -so we need to de-list at least three players before the national draft.

We probably want a pick in the pre-season draft too where a number of good players may be available for various reasons.

So that's four we need to delist. There may also be a spot for one of our rookies eg Golding or McLean.

So I reckon five players need to go.

1. Adam Richardson - clearly out of favour with the coaching staff and not quick and mobile enough for this level.

2. Michael Doughty - got some chances near the end of the year but to me he just can't cut it at the top level

3. Ricky Oloughlin- was not given any chance at all by being taken on and off the ground and being dropped and has lost all confidence. Not his fault but I can't see him developing now.

4. Mattew Shir - has had two years on the list and despite looking good at the start of the year has failed to live up to expectiations - was in Glenelg's reserves at the end of the year which does not look good on the resume.

5. Beinke or Byrne - Both have had many goes and can't seem to cement a spot. Think Beinke is more likely to go as he just doesn't have the size to be a key forward week in and week out and the list would look better with a developing youngster.

Some further comments

Crowell - a very hand pacey back up - vital that he stays on and improves

McGregor will be kept though is lucky that we picked him instead of Pavlich and the Club needs to give him evey chance. He has had most of them - one more year at most.

Marsh - one of the most overated playes in the competition in my view. Played graeat against Sydney 3 years ago and hasn't dominated a match since.

Hewitt- looks an excellent otion at CHB to allow Stevo to play forward. Showed some excellent signs

Smith - clearly a project player - needs two more years at least to develop.

Skipworth - looks to be too small but again needs some time to develop as he is only young. Is eager and a goer.

James Gallagher - been a revelation, will hopefully be a future star.

Handby - looks to have the goods

Johncock - ealry to say but looks very good and can kick a footy a long way.

Angwin - who knows - too many injuries - would be nice to see him play some games next year.

With the four new guys and Ladhams and Bode likely to be much better next year we have many reasons to be positive.

McLeod will be fired up next year too -look for his best season yet.

O'Loughlin > Too slow in the footy brain department for his flashy "not quite up to AFL standard" skills

Ciccolella or Skipworth > Too small...I think we have others better than him that will fill the breech in Bode / Ladhams / Shirley

Well Topjars, he had 6 quarters of footy, both during night games, hardly enough to tell conclusively that he can't play at AFL level. Of course, having said that, I agree with you that he probably isn't up to it and should be delisted.

I agree with ant. Richo needs to go. He did all that hard work during the pre season to prove what? He's a dud that spends more time and effort into putting his eye liner and mascara on and waxing that bloody hair off his up.

Believe we need to delist a minimum of 3 with the elevation of J Gallagher off the rookie list, the retirement of Jars & Robran, & the net gain of 1 player through the draft (for the 2nd pick). None of the other rookies are worth elevating & the Crows hierachy should take more care in choosing the rookies for 2002 (ie. joke that Golding & Ciccicola are still on it).

Must goodbyes - Richo & Ricky (although before the draft you would have thought Ricky had more chance of being traded then D Gallagher - still reckon Carlton must be thinking they are getting James!.

In danger - Smith, Byrne, Beinke, Shir, Bown & Doughty.

Smith I don't know anything about as I haven't seen him play. Being his 1st year on the list he is probably safe for another, but would need to reunite himself with the footy soon.

Byrne seems to try hard (well atl east he tries hard at looking good), but is not up to AFL standard. I would look at delisting.

Beinke I rate & kicked goals at crucial stages this year (ie. we would have lost to Freo twice if he hadn't played at football park). Experience could be important on our forward line with the retirements.

Shir looked Ok, before being disillusioned with lack of chances & playing for the bays. Should stay on the list.

Bown has the build, but not sure about his mental capacity to crack it at AFL level. Wouldn't be concerned if he was delisted.

Doughty has big wraps on him, but hasn't shown much yet with his limited opportunities. Reckon he should be given another year to prove himself.

Also, not convinced about Kenny, but the Crows won't delist him this early considering they picked him instead of Pavlich.

Any or all of the following could go without too much discomfort:
Beinke - even if he plays his best four quarters of football ever in one afl game would still be considered average!
Bown - see Norwood v Port in this years finals. Actually try and see if he did anything, it will take some doing.
Byrne - not in the top 10 midfielders on the list, better to try someone else.
Crowell - probably a lot better than any mentioned above, still hasn't played much good in the AFL. Could still be there next year.
Doughty - two words: delist him. make it three: delist him NOW!

Neither are AFL players. Bode is weak...very very weak - its why we had no quarms getting rid of him....Ladhams aint much flash either. Id much rather Skipworth or Byrne in my side than Bode or Ladhams.

Bode is a very small, very weak little boy! He has a lot of pace and can rad the ball well (always at the front of the pack), but I wasn't at all surprised to see him injured more often than not last year. Port were quite justified in the end in getting rid of him.

The port boys are certainly getting into little Bodey. I may add that he is indeed very injury prone and that Port made a good decision to trade him last year as he would certainly be delisted from Port this year. Will he stay at the crows ...well who knows. He is better than a fair few players there but he is still not that good.
Keep up the good work Tredders and Macca seems like i now have 17 on the possible delist list!

****, I think Bode is a good player, and I was pretty disappointed to see him traded. Sure, he's small, but he's got drive and a great ball sense, and when he's fit, he doesn't give up.

Just because he's at the crows, it doesn't mean he's magically crap.

Just thought id dredge this up again now. If they had listen to me they could of cut some of the excess a year earlier, although some mistakes would have been made, particluarly Welsh & Doughty.

Beinke - gone (correct)
Bown - gone (correct)
Byrne - gone (correct)
Crowell - stays (I did say he was better & has improved since)
Doughty - stays (I was wrong, showed a fair bit this year)
HAndby - gone (thought he'd stay last year and was suprised to see him go)
Hewitt - gone (correct)
Ladhams - stays (thought he may stay and has improved a bit)
McStinker - stays (has improved, i still dont rate him highly though)
Ricky O - gone (correct)
Richo - gone (correct)
Shir - gone (correct)
Shirley - gone (stayed last year as predicted and is know something better has come along i guess)
Skippy - gone (correct)
Smith - stays (will stay again and has improved)
Welsh - stays (showed he can play at AFL this year, shame about his injuries, i was wrong on him too)

Well since this thread has been dredged up (being a new member I've only just read it for the first time), I thought I'd just point out how laughable this sentence is 12 months on.

Eago77 - perhaps that only proves that a conservative approach is required if you're to avoid making mistakes in delisting. Better to keep a few duds than get rid of a star.
