You can not go past Coopers beer.

Turn it up Macca!

Coopers is the type of crap you would give an Essendon supporter if he was dieing of thirst.

Crown Lager is the number one-finances permitting. Usually I just drink VB or Carlton Draught though.

Uncle Steve - thank ya very much (and yes I am a man), we do seem to agree on a few things. I've probably tried about 200 different varieties of beer in my time so I take my drinking pretty seriously. Good to see someone sharing a few of my views.

Carlton Draught, but Lowenbrau would be a fave I rarely get to have.
don't mind Crownies though.

Guinness on tap is great as well as Carlton Draught.

VB's ok, Cooper's is an old favourite, I haven't drank a bad beer from them yet, XXXX and West End and Southwark beers are average, but Emu and Swan's OK, but the Matilda Bay beer's better over there in Perth.

American Beer, except this Samuel Adam's Boston Lager that occasoinally comes out is watery.

But, the best beer I have had is this Pilsner Urquell from Czecheslovakia, a brilliant beer and is still brewed in the traditional style, Coopers Original Pale ale is great on a hot day as well as Grolsch and anything from Cascade and Boags

I'm not a beer drinker at all, but most beer drinkers that I know all seem to go for Heineken.

Someone mentioned the big bottles of Heineken - if you mean the one I think you do - I agree, they're pretty cool - huge 3 litre magnum type bottles. I have one at home - just for show!

Out of curiousity - any of you Guiness drinkers tried 'Murphy's'? Apparently after drinking Murphy's, Guiness becomes a very poor 2nd choice.....

a travellers rant

where do i start? having had the good fortune to have travelled to many countries around the world, drinking beer in each and every one of them was always a top priority. unfortunately i can't remember the names of the best one's due to severe over indulgence :D

here are a few that i remember fondly:
- ireland: guiness (there is no better beer in the world than a pint that has been poured on the emerald isle, liquid gold). harp's not bad either.
- england: those that think that the beer in england is warm and undrinkable are just piss drinking lager louts with no appreciation for real beer. the bitters and ales in the local pub/breweries are magnificent and put the local fosters product to shame. a personal favorite was newcastle brown ale and yorkshire bitter.
scotland: tennants, but got caught up in the single malt whiskies to take much notice.
- mainland europe is a beer drinkers utopia. belgium, holland and germany produce many quality beers mainly specialising in the pilseners. my philosophy when travelling is to never drink a label you know, try something new and when you find something you like, stick with it all night.
- when in any scandanavian country just ask for whatever is the cheapest, after all an expensive bad tasting beer is still better than none at all.
- the bonus about travelling in russia and most eastern block countries is that the beer is extremely cheap however they can only be drunk by people who's cullinary tastes range from boiled potatoes to baked turnips. stick to the white spirits which are also cheap and nasty but can be consumed in short sharp gulps. poland and the czeck republic did provide some tasty brews and a night of beer, women and song would only cost around $10.00us, if you know how to use the black market.
- the muslim countries of the middle east and surrounds are a nightmare. just thinking about travelling through saudi arabia, pakistan, iran, afganistan is enough to send me into a shivering deluded mess crazily counting the little pink monkeys flying around the room. hot, heat, blazing sun and barely a drop anywhere to be found, thankfully the locals thought nothing of smoking hash in a 'hubbly bubbly' pipe so you soon forget about your parched condition.
- the united states is another waste land for beer drinkers, the local swill floats upwards it is that light. if you persevere millers will eventually grow on you. just for a laugh, when at a bar order a can of bud, take a sip and forcefully spit out the vile contents onto the floor. when a septic asks you what you did that for, pull out your old fella, fill up the can and dare him to notice the difference.
- central and south america on the other hand has many a fine beer, though the peruvian custom of mixing beer with cola was a little bit strange, but surprisingly refreshing.
- when in argentina at dinner time make sure you order the bife con heuvo et fritas con mas frio cerveca antartica por favor (sp?) which for those that love steak, egg, chips with a cold beer will be in heaven. sitting at a restaurant outside after midnight the steak is about 3 inches thick and the 1 litre bottle of antartica beer is chilled to frozen and served in an ice bucket. pure magic.
- the northern beaches of brazil are also a beer drinkers paradise. picture yourself sitting on a beach eating crab meat and cashews and drinking a freezing cold beer named brahma chop whilst admiring the brazilian girls who wear very skimpy bikinis, damn wish i was there right now.

- australia, boags, melbourne bitter, carlton draft but thank goodness for imported beers.:D
