There is lots of media attention on us out there today, but in particular I found this one very interesting.

www.watoday.com.au/afl/afl-news/the-qsticks-new-shtick-20110712-1hc1t.html

I knew the Q was having a big impact on games, but I didn't think it was as huge as this. Well-done to the big fella, considering many BF critics were baying for his blood. On these figures, he is our most influential midfielder.

Finally someone has worked out JK is our full forward and Q our CHF.

A few of us were lambasted when we mentioned how good he looked at training this year - has definitely dropped bulk which has improved his endurance.

What those stats don't show is the get out option he is alos providing - the long down the like kick that he gets over the boundary allowing us to set up again under Cox/NN. This was essential in our win against North.

What the stats show is that very few blokes are playing CHF anymore. Sides generally have 1 main key forward who roams between deep and up the ground. We are actually playing the old traditional FF/CHF set up and playing it well.

The other thing to note for Q is his vision. Last year he'd grab it and bang it long - this year his eyes are firmly dropped and only goes long if there is no other option. Some of his passing to a leading LeCras have been superb.

The stats do no surprise me as it has been very noticeable. All year we've just been passing it down the boundary line. Hurn to Darling, Darling to Lynch, Lynch to Kennedy (among other versions). The contested marking has been supreme and is the major reason we have been working it up the field quite easily.

Yep, need to resign imo. GWS would have to be very interested in him

Might be a good move to let him go. His value is sky high atm and will never be higher. He is getting on in years and will provide good first round compensation.

We all saw how poor Lynch was last year. Hansen was hung onto for too long. Lynch to GWS could be a blessing in disguise.

His value to us might be sky high - hell even to GWS if they want him

But being unsigned our compensation at best would be end of first round. Same as a Nathan Bock. The decision to "let him go" isn't ours if GWS poach him.

For mine - a guy that is performing a role as well as he is worth more to us than pick 19 or 20.

Fair call however Hansen really does spring to mind. If Lynch performs for another 2 or 3 years at this level does that outweigh a draft pick... Lynch appears to be playing out of his skin atm, it's quite possible he will lose form next year.

Shuey was taken with pick 18, Darling 26, Scott Selwood 22. Most of our players were actually late first round / second round. These picks are useful.

Lynch is exceptionally fit and a durable player. Hansen was an injury ravaged mess. Based on Lynch's improvement in marking, I don't think he'll lose his form too quickly.

Lynch is verstatile, fit and not prone to injuries. There's no reason he cant keep playing well into his 30s. Who knows, he could end up a 300 gamer, with another premiership or 2 to his name. His form last year wasnt even bad - he was just being used more as a backup ruck. He also appears to be loyal to the club. Too many supporters seem to show no loyality to players at all.

Very unlikely to get adequate compensation if he went to GWS. Sign him up!

It's Nicoski that's surprised me most this year - I thought he should have been delisted last year. Good on him for proving me wrong.

One year contract. Must have played himself on the GWS radar. One final 3 year contract worth more then what we can give. End of first one compo for us. Which we could bundle with our first pick to get Rich.

Remember reading somewhere that he signed a one year deal as he was considering becoming a punter in the NFL.

Why would we trade a 28yr old key forward in absolutely sensational form. He would play until he's 31+. At most we'd only get compensated with a mid 2nd round pick from the AFL if he goes to GWS, why bother?

I was adamant last year that GC should have picked him up. That is one aspect of their drafting that was overlooked, a mature bodied key forward, was always going to be a better option than Fraser.

Like everyone I didn't expect him to play so well this year but we don't want to lose him now, he could very well be a journeyman, given his soundness.

I said last year that Kennedy with his marking would be better suited to a FF role, even though he would be sacrificing his tank. With Lynch and Darling playing that lead up role, it is one of the many factors contributing to our good season.

But he would be a perfect fit for GWS and given the standoff last year with his 1 year contract, he could very well have already committed to GWS, if not I don't see him leaving now we are successful and he is playing well.

Those stats are all well and good and Lynch has had a great year but he still needs to kick better into the forward line if he is going to have that many inside 50's. The article compares him to Judd, well Judd has exactly the same number of inside 50's but twice as many goal assists.

As far as GC/WS go... its great that every single one of our older players are having the best seasons of there lives.... we could do very well out of loosing a Lynch for a 17yr old. Lynch of course gets the benefit of a 2-3 yr deal on some decent coin, bump up that retirement fund.

I'm not sure those stats are accurate

If you are taking the AFL stats from the website - Goal Assists have had gremlins all year

He has made himself almost indispensible now, has the Q. I don't know what his personal efficiency figure is, but I was amazed to hear during the Geelong game / 2nd quarter, I think, that our DE was 84 % - that's bloody high.
With that sort of DE, it's no wonder we are on a long winning streak. :thumbsu:
