For new bands, Bullet For My Valentine it seems are getting a decent following overseas (no idea about here?) - I believe they've now supported Metallica and Iron Maiden, and looking at the top artists for the week on last.fm they're one place behind Opeth, eventhough BFMV's only full length album came out in 05 (or Feb 06 here).

(in the 190's)

Despite the crap I've seen some metal fans at metal-archives hang on them (based more on image and popularity it seems, rather than the music :p), I think it's one of the best debut heavy metal albums I've heard for a while.

here's any slightly heavy and/or related bands taken out of the top 400 at the link above - I've probably missed some though. Probably not a great indication, and of course will favour any bands with albums just released, but I got no idea where else to look.

Now that is one heavy band. :p
One of my favourites actually but they are one of the softest bands in my collection.

Also Tool is not metal. Brilliant, but not metal.

Hey Roddy,

Go and seek the DVD...METAL A Headbanger's Diary by a Canadian guy named Sam Dunn, the guy flys to Birmingham to Europe (Wacken) to USA to
explore the different sub-genres of "Heavy Metal". Highly reccommend it :thumbsu: as it's got many interviews with the bands themselves...the Slipknot's, the Arch Enemy's of todays metal..ect ect... I'm definately the OLD SCHOOL 'metal' fan...doesn't matter what sub-genre of metal your into...it's got it's place on Sam Dunn's listings.. the whole Norwegian 'Death > burn the churches down > Metal. Check it out.

Saw that twice at the cinema about a month ago!!!! Excellent movie, would post my review but BF won't let me.
Personally, I'm an old school, mid-school and new-school Metal head!!!!

Cradle of Filth would be up there as well. Outside the big american bands, you would think that COF would be one of the biggest known european metal bands these bands, with Iron Maiden.

The usual response with people outside the metal community, as they all seem to have a mental image of any kind of metal associated with Dani Filth. High pitched screaming short people with the corpse paint leather outfits included.

Same with people wearing metal T-shirts. It always seems to be a gauge with whats hip and happening. ;)

90% of metalheads would say they are the biggest sell outs ever. I actually like their new stuff though.

I couldn't possibly care any less what most Metalheads have to say, a great band is a great band. And Soilwork most definitely are....

The only album I ever really cared for by Soilwork was "The Chainheart Machine", but oh boy, what a doozy of an album that was
