At this stage, H2 and H4 won't have any money for their landscaping. They are consistently over budget each week, not by a little, but by a lot. It won't be long before Scotty starts having the 'budget" talk with a few of these couples. H5 spent more than $38,000 last week.

The money allocated from Suncorp each week is to pay for trades & building materials and some styling items not covered by their Block Bucks. They do get free things like the Kinsman wardrobes and the Freedom Kitchens. They have a budget allocated for places like Mitre10, Beaumont tiles, Reece bathroom stuff, and Beacon lighting. Once they use these budgets up at these suppliers, they have to pay for things out of their Suncorp money.
They don’t care because at the end of the day they will have “competitions” to magically get the money needed to finish the landscapping or the rooms…the producers /channel 9 won’t let it not be finished

This is actually incorrect. More than one set of contestants has had to finish their properties in the past on a shoestring budget because they blew it all earlier in the show. The money doesn't just magically appear, it never has.

They all just got given money tonight so there’s that

I do agree that this season they throwing the cash about. That is a little different to past years. But a couple of grand here and there will not help some of these contestants if they keep going $10,000+ over budget every week.

We know why Omar & Oz are getting through. They're using family and friends to help them build. While it's not against the rules to use tradies you know or who are family members, it is against the rules to have them work on the cheap or for free. They have to be paid the Block minimum amount to for trades which, IIRC, is about $55/hour.

Shame that Ronnie the dickhead is coming back.

She’s right why are they getting special treatment just because they had a massive sook and threaten to leave …last night they were given help with the demo clean up and now a Masterclass in painting

She’s exactly right their scores are not reflective on their painting so why all this help because they are having a massive sook about how hard it all is

I've seen them bring in people to teach contestants things like painting before. That's nothing new. IIRC, Scotty sent Ronnie to the twins last year to teach them how to paint. They eventually have to sell these houses, so helping in these little ways is hardly favoritism. It makes business sense. However, I do agree with Rachel when she said if the painting was so bad, then why are they getting 9s or 9.5s from the judges some weeks? That doesn't make sense to me, either.

Looks like it's Rachel's turn to have a meltdown this week.

But the judging on this show has always been a dog's breakfast. I think every season (well, in the last six or so), some contestants just give up trying to please the judges because it seems they never can. Every year we have this same gripe session about Shaynna, Darren, & Neal. They play favorites is a common contestant complaint. If Rachel has actually watched this show before, she'd know that. Maybe she just never thought she wouldn't be a judge's favorite.

In regards to Oz & Omar, I do think something dodgy is going on there. I'm sure the producers/building site managers are aware of it, and maybe that's another reason they brought Ron Dog in just to get that out into the open. Ronnie has a way of getting people talking. I thought that the fireside chat was very interesting. Kieth also seems pretty adamant things don't add up in house 5. I've heard him say that over a few weeks now.

You can all gripe as much as you like about Ronnie, but I think he's a terrific personality. Just like his wife. Always makes for good viewing on The Block.

I don’t think it’s been too dodgy …sure they are using the loopholes with their tradies to lower the cost but most of their rooms have been smaller than the other houses which cuts the costs down as well
It's not a loophole to bring in family members/friends to do work overnight for free. Providing, of course, that is true. But such things are against the rules. They can have family & friends helping or working as trades, but they have to be paid the Block minimum hourly rate. No freebies or jobs on the cheap.

Again, it's all just accusation at the moment. I hope it turns out to be just a misunderstanding. But, someone needs to go out and film these actions happening overnight. That, too, has been done before on The Block. But usually to catch contestants out for using power tools after the noise curfew begins, not for what H5 has been accused of.

Keith rabbiting on was a joke.

If he knew about it "weeks ago" why is he only saying something now? Manufactured drama much.

They could be skirting the rules with family invoicing like a 6 hour day but actually working 8 hours.

Not sure how the hour things work if you negotiate fixed quotes for a job which they usually tell the poor budgeting couples in past seasons

This is not skirting the rules. It's against the rules. It's cheating. To do this gives the contestants an unfair advantage over the others.

Really if it was true I’m sure the producers or Scotty would had stepped in ages ago to reprimand H5 but we will see
This idea that Scotty and the producers know everything that's going on and therefore why haven't they acted sooner etc. I find it strange. People who cheat do it in a way so those in control don't know, and then they lie to deflect and cover it up. It's quite possible things could be happening that Scotty or the show don't know about. But I can see suspicions are definitely coming through and have been for a few weeks. I hope it all turns out to be a misunderstanding of some sort and the guys are in the clear. But at least it's making the show interesting.
