The Brownlow is now a paper thin award

I don't think they'll ever replace the Brownlow

That's b/c the Brownlow has the history & the whole celebrity of the night itself.

It's a flawed medal now given it's exclusively a midfielder's medal & the winner himself can be determined by so many variables other than being the best player for that year. i.e. if you play for a strong side, it's harder to win one than playing for a weaker side.

i.e. if you play for a strong side, it's harder to win one than playing for a weaker side.

what a load of crap, the vast majority of brownlow medallists from the past decade and indeed before that have played for top 2-3 sides, are these 'weaker' sides?

MK quoted the posts of people who had religiously followed each AFL match and closely followed Brownlow voting and had determined Judd was expected to take home the prize, if not definitely be up there. was he the best performed player of the season? we could argue about opinions and stats but the fact is i'd be willing to bet my house that most people who claim judd was undeserved didn't see enough of him or gary ablett or chris judd during the season to make that claim, that is MY opinion.

as MK also said, the Brownlow hasn't 'become' anything, it's the same award it's always been, its just people like to call it a farce now that a Carlton player has won it. boo hoo.

But by the sound of the above, you are in fact agreeing with me that Judd was not the seasons best player.

Indeed I do agree on this point. I'd have thought him a top 3-5 player. Being outright No.1 though, isn't something that's required to be a deserving Brownlow winner; just as being the No.1 most valuable player to your team isn't necessarily required to be a deserving MVP winner.

And those forums went into meltdown, which would suggest to me that I am obviously not alone in thinking that Judd was NOT a deserving winner of the Brownlow Medal in 2010.

For the sake of amity, I edited my original comment, from "for all the little bitches" to "for the disgruntled". Perhaps for the sake of clarity I shouldn't have. Some who post are worth listening too, others can be hysterical. Find you own balance I guess.

For me, the best way to establish if Judd deserved the award, is by comparing his win to that of previous winners; and I think he fares pretty well; in fact, better than some.

And he did not finish in the top five in the AFLPA MVP.

Yeah. Sandilands kept Judd out of the MVP top 5 IIRC. Coaches had him in their top 5 and their's is a game-to-game voting system, not a post season 3-2-1 popular vote by the players, some of whom may not have even seen all the nominees.

Ruckmen don't do all that well in the Brownlow, so there's nothing wrong at all in calling Judd a top 5 player; unless you reckon you know better than the coaches.

What I am saying is that the process that allows a player to win this award when he is clearly not the best in the league is flawed. Ie. The voting process needs to chnage so that the most prestigious individual award in the game more accurately represents the accolade it bestows.

And what I say is get over it. You act as if it's the first time the outright best hasn't won it. It's kinda idiotic in its own way, because it happens as often as not. More important than anything I think, is that you get some perspective on the actual award and alter you expectations accordingly.

Judd was one of the best of 2010 and thus, a deserving winner.
