One good game does not a season make.

His effort has wavered this year and in some games he has been very much below par.

We may hold him to a higher set of standards but that is because that is what he has set. He certainly hasn't lived up to them this year.

Hasn't he? Statistically, he's been as good or better this year as he has been last year, the year before, or really his entire career.
