In Canberra, the winters get pretty cold. When a night is predicted to drop below 3 degrees (enough to potentially keep you awake and ruin your sleep),.

And the worst thing about that is you then have to get out of that warm bed the next morning:eek:. Love walking to the car and the sound of the iced up grass crunching under your feet.

Don't mind the cold. It's a lot easier to warm up in winter than to cool down in summer.

For all of you softies on the North Island, there are a few good options to beat the cold;

1. Merino thermals; Wear them under normal clothes. They wick moisture away from your body and are naturally odour resistant (so don't stink you up like the polypropylene version). On a really cold day here, I wear two sets over each other.

2. Ugg Boots; Uncool, but who cares? Warm feet = happy life

3. Wool beanie/gloves; I walk 30 minutes to work every morning here, even at -2 to -4 degrees. A woolen beanie (hand knitted is best) and gloves do the trick.

4. Wood stove; Nothing heats a room or a house like a wood stove.

Or move to Darwin.

My body temperature has changed in the last few years. I'm always cold now, Im sure I have a circulation problem.

I used to be on the team that says winter is better as you can easily get warm whilst it's hard to get cool in summer.

But now i love hot weather it's comfortable for me. 40 to me is fine. I'm still cold when it's 28 outside. During winter I have the ducted heating set to 24 which I still find cold if I'm sitting on the couch doing nothing and I also use a heated throw which I love. Best thing ever.

Some days I just cant get warm. I used to always be on the hotter side but not now.

Never used to be worried by the cold until I had my back operation.
Now, every time it starts to get cold my back starts seizing up and hurting.

Love the cold but here in Perth our winters at times can actually be far from it. Just rug up....I guess is the only solution.

Looking forward to 20 pages of heroes "it's not even cold I walk around in this weather in speedos seriously harden up people".

Similar to the the thread where the heroes spent dozens of pages telling us how 5 straight days of 40+ isn't hot.

I love the heat, a few weeks of 40+ is my idea of an ideal summer.

If you don't really feel the cold then you should lose a few kilograms as you're probably overweight. A couple of years back I lost about ten kgs and stopped sweating constantly in summer and started really feeling the cold in winter.

The cold doesn't get to me as much as moving from a cold clime to the oppressive heat of the work office and back again. I don't know if women feel the cold more than men, but they certainly overreact more. Rainy 14 degrees with a slight windchill? IT'S FREEEEEEEEEEEEZING OUT THERE. AREN'T YOU FREEZING? I'M FREEZING! WHY AREN'T YOU WEARING MORE CLOTHES? I'M FREEZING, AREN'T YOU? GOD THIS IS UNBEARABLE, DO YOU THINK IT WILL SNOW?

Winter is meant to be cold. It's not meant to be a tropical 25 degrees and beach weather in the office. It's my biggest hate for the season(s). I just got back from the Philippines and got a bad head cold over there in the last few days because of the constant air-con set at the frigid temperature of 18 degrees wherever you go and the constant changing between that and the 32 degrees with 85 percent humidity.

Air conditioning in the heat in only nice in short bursts. I couldn't stand being in the aircon for too long in Darwin. Great when you're sweaty and need to cool off but then you're just getting colder and dryer and the air isn't very fresh.

If you have good ventilation and you're in the shade you're usually ok unless there's rain on the way and the humidity is approaching 100%.

Get used to it. People sit in front of heaters all day and wear 10 layers of clothes. I go to work in a shirt all winter and I work in an open workshop. I did feel it the first few weeks but with exposure you just adapt. Its the same with summer. Get out in the heat and sweat it out.

Being cold is alright. As others have said, rugging up is a lot better than the alternative when it's hot.

But when it's so cold that it hurts to move, that's when it gets a bit ridiculous. And having to wear clothes to bed is just annoying and disrupts my sleep.

The other great thing about the cold is winter clothes are way better than summer clothes.
One of the reasons I love winter. Plus it's footy season, you feel that crisp on your face every day, music sounds better, movies feel bigger... it's my favourite time, even as a boy who grew up on the nicest beaches of Australia, I don't look forward to summer apart from its afternoons. There just isn't much nicer than layering up and walking through the miserable, dark cold to the footy, to the pub, to uni, to a night out... it's what life's about.
