I am looking to pick up Cox soon, but have doubts as to whether I should go ahead with the trade, for fear of Cox being iced for the season as the Eagles look to tank.

With his current injury, does anyone know how bad it is, and if it can heal, or if he will have to play through it all year. From his 3 past games, his TOG has been good since his injury:

R3 v Freo (game injured?) - 74%
R4 v Syd - 66% (Injury flares up again?
R5 v PA - 80%
R6 v WB - 85%
R7 v Carlton - 78%

So from these TOG stats and knowledge about his injury, would you be trading up to him, even though you carry the risk that in the future he could be ruled out for the year, or put on ice towards the end of the season (DT Finals).

Anyone in my boat? Main alternative is Jeff White.

Its too risky getting him now, with that broken bone in his foot and with the Eagles most likely out of contention for finals, you seriously cant risk them doing a 'rest the players for next season' job. Lay off the Cox if you dont have him, get a J White if you dont have him already

definitely in the same boat.

think i might roll with simmonds and kozi for a while now with riewoldt out, kozi might got to CHF

Yer i'm in the same position as you mate, looking to trade out Wood this week and I reckon I'll go White over Cox.

Trades are worth there weight in gold, especially at the business end of the season, So im willing to take the hit in points now rather then using a trade later

I have decided to hold off and stick with my 3 (Simmonds/McIntosh/Berger) for now unless something drastic happens. The likelihood that Cox will sit the pine is quite high - they'd be looking to either run Seaby back into form or give a few kids a run and see what they can do - particularly with the way they are playing right now.

I wouldn't be worried about Cox missing the odd game if I had somebody to cover him. Never got on the Kruezer or Leuy bandwagon and it could cost me.

The biggest risk with Cox is not so much his scoring with the injury as this will continue to be solid but that the Eagles will put him out to pasture early when they are completely out of the finals race.

Look at recent history, anyone with an injury cloud in a team out of contention goes for early ops or healing time to get a full preseason for the following year whilst possibly helping the team get a better draft pick by their absence. Just worried that Cox will finish up this way.

I'll eat my hat if the Eagles go about "tanking" by dropping Cox for anything more than a 1 game rest due to an ever worsening injury. The young blokes need to learn how to work with Cox, not without him! West Coast will not go about "tanking" by dropping our best performing players for kids and underperforming players. We don't want the kids to be smashed, they need to learn how to win together, otherwise, what is the point? We will be "tanking" by playing the kids - specifically dropping the underperforming seniors (Fletcher, Braun, Hansen, etc) for the kids. We don't have a history of tanking and I don't think we will, we have a proud winning culture and this will not change because we have lost a bucketload of confidence and a few games.

In short, get Cox! The real question is, why didn't you have him since the beginning?

ive got Saindilands and Simmonds and they are going along wonders but is it soon the right time to trade sandi for Cox.

Sandilands is dominating all year with hitouts and showed his potential against the cats.

imo not risking it as i have no backup besides T.West even if he plays which he wont much more.

I wouldn't say it's "tanking" in Rd 16 if you are 4-12 to let a guy with a broken foot heal to get a full pre-season under his belt. Look at the Pies a couple of years back with Buckley, Fraser, Rocca etc.

Hope they don't do it but like it or not the risk exists. Not tanking but management of injured players.

anything around 75% gametime is actually quite a lot for a ruckman !!

my theory is simple.
everyone's got Cox. we all share the same fate.
this is a secret DT alliance amongst the elite. get on board.

update on Cox from the man himself: http://www.afl.com.au/News/NewsArticle/tabid/208/Default.aspx?newsId=59243 "The previous weeks have been challenging, but the best thing about it is it's pulled up better each week as the weeks have progressed," Cox said before training on Wednesday afternoon." Still not convinced that he will play out the season... will sit tight for a few more weeks me thinks...

everyone's got Cox.

About half of us do anyway...

He's worth keeping until they potetentially pull the plug on him, but given his efforts with his foot the way it is, it's unlikely. I'd be concerned about buying him now, but in reality he'll play the best part of the season because WC can't afford to lose Cox with the state they're in now.
