Pathetic but not unexpected. Smith should not play again. Khawaja could be decent but he is being battered by this tour. Watson will never change his spots. Feel sorry for Harris and Rogers who did all they could to put Australia into a winning position, only for Malfoy to undo all their good work with the cherry and for Bresnan to club Bird and Siddle all over the stadium to ramp up the psychological pressure. We have the most mentally fragile top six in world cricket at thee moment. NZ showed the Poms could be beaten on their home turf, but we've choked away victories in two tests and were abysmal in another.

I know he isn't the greatest keeper and his batting form was mixed but at least Wade has some toughness and mental strength in his batting. Haddin just doesn't step up as a leader when we are under pressure. What is his experience worth? Not much I'd say. He did keep well on this tour but generally he isn't an A-grade keeper either. Once again we couldn't make a score without Clarke. Not even 300 with a 0-100 start. We need to bring back Hughes and cut Watson. Bat Hughes at 6 where he can face up to an old ball. I believe he has the will to improve his game against spin as he has against short pitched bowling. I'd persist with Smith and Khawaja. I'd probably even persist with Warner. All we can do is cross our fingers and hope guys like Maddinson and Burns step up this season and can provide an alternative to failure.

Very disappointed with Bird. This was a pitch made for his bowling and he delivered nothing. Disappointed with Siddle but he has runs on the broad and at least he gave something with the bat.

Went to bed at Rogers dismissal 1/109 with expectations that I would wake with us needing anywhere between 60-100 to win and hopefully at least 7 wickets in hand.

So disappointing. 3-0 not an accurate reflection of the series but until this side can eradicate these batting collapses that undo an entire test in 20 minutes then we continue to lose tests.

Aside from the collapse last night, the main thing that cost us was that we really needed a bigger lead on first innings. Were so well placed to really put England under the pump. Just get the feeling that if Swan hadn't chimed in with those two wickets before the new ball (Rogers in particular), we could have had 100+ lead.

Really odd game for the bowlers on both sides. Harris & Broad head and shoulders above, followed by the spinners and then daylight.

So now there's a tug of war with that young batsman who's the leading run scorer in county cricket. Dual citizenship and a former Australian under 19 player.

Fast bowler Pat Cummins is set to miss a third consecutive home summer with a recurrence of his lower back stress injury. Cummins, 20, made his long-awaited return to first-class cricket on the Australia A tour of Zimbabwe and South Africa over the past month but after taking five wickets in two first-class games, and none in a 50-over match, he was sent home early with back trouble that has proven serious.

The current generation's version of Bruce Reid !

I wonder what the team will look like for the final test? I had this idea that there are a couple of people handy with the bat and ball that aren't in the team, but who are touring England at the moment. Are there any rules to say the test team must be all men?

Well the side has been named for the final test.

Faulkner is in for Special K
Starc in for Bird

I assume it will be
Rogers
Warner
Watson
Clarke
Smith
Haddin/Faulkner
Faulker/Haddin
Starc
Siddle
Harris
Lyon

Oh no. Playing two all rounders, three if you count Starc.

Four specialist batsmen, and Smith...

My thoughts aswell. I could understand Watson -> Faulkner swap. But surely we must play another batsman - Hughes, Special K

It could get very, very ugly.

Does it make a difference? The supposed specialist batsmen don't make any runs anyway. At least we've strengthened the strongest part of our batting order -> the tail.

Cricket is dead to me. We can't make 300 so we bring in more bowlers . . . Defies logic.

I'm so disappointed in Special K. Been messed around terribly, but just hasn't taken his opportunities..... seems mentally shot. Will need a 1,000 run shield season or two to get another look in I reckon.

I guess they're saying to Khawaja and Hughes you've blown it and you're not going to just get a game by default.
Series is shot so let's see what Faulkner is made of makes some sense, but Watson getting a game just frustrates me no end. Although it's crazy, I would have settled for Wade in for Watson. Makes no sense, but nothing does at the moment.

Watson is Mr Golden Ticket. Hasn't made runs in more than 2 years. Was never that great before that. Is past his best and doesn't look like making a 100. Hughes is a player who has immense talent but has been inconsistent. Despite having played 20 less test matches than Watson, Hughes has a similar average and an extra hundred. Hughes is young and has also demonstrated a willingness to work on his technique. He wanted to spend time working on his technique against spin ahead of the India series but was instead told to play one day cricket instead. Gets to india and struggles against spinners. By the end of the series makes a 69 and 45 in his last two tests demonstrating that he is not a lost cause against spin and that he needs exposure to improve. First test for this series he makes a hard nosed 81 not out and then fails to have an impact in the second test. So three of his last four tests he has scored 45 or more and gets dropped. It is appalling management of a player. Not saying he has starred but why persist with Watson when he offers no more with the bat and has no future? It makes no sense. We aren't going to go into the GABBA test with this batting line up. Playing two medium pace all rounders is not a winning structure. Its a NZ test team and we know NZ don't win test matches consistently so what is the point? If Watson plays, Faulkner doesn't. Happy to try Wade as a batsman. Has made a lot of runs at shield level and shown some grit with the bat. The worst thing that could happen here is that Watson and Faulkner make runs and we win a test.

This was a disgrace

Warner out for six with a windy waft at a Jimmy Anderson outswinger. Never looked comfortable, but it brings out the walking lbs that is Australia's vice-captain.

1/11 after winning the toss.

He will probably get a wicket or two now, but Woakes doesnt look to be much good. Admittingly I havent seen him much before, but he isnt swinging it, bowls at a pace which most batsman will thoroughly enjoy, and minimal bounce really.

Ended up being a good session for the Aussies. Losing Warner's wicket for in excess of 100 runs in the session is a good result. Helps though when England weakened their bowling attack by playing two debutants.
