One day matches should be eliminated except for the World Cup.

Play tests for the serious stuff, and then T20 for the giggles, and make the World Cup the only international 50 overs contest.

That's my (possibly half-baked) idea to make intenational cricket seem a little more meaningful, and hopefully raise the status of the World Cup...

They play so much for the money but simultaneously dilute the value of the product while they do it. Catch 22.

The drivers are from India now and they love the short form rubbish.

Interestingly, and we discussed this in one of the threads last year, but the domestic T20 financial model based on pay TV ratings were rather ambitious to say the least. Given they didn't reach their target in the first year and the subsequent slide in attendances and tv viewing audiences this year, you'd have to conclude that they have a rethink on their hands.

More fireworks I'd guess.

And right there with Warner is why the current DRS sucks big time. If he got any more bat on that LBW he would have middled. Sposed to eliminate the patently wrong decisions, hey?

And it could still do that ... IF ... players stopped using it as a tactic.

What in hell is wrong with administrators of sport these days? They seem to get just about EVERYTHING wrong these days.

Actually, I think there is an inherent conflict between their intended aim and the implementation.

If they wanted eliminate howlers, the decisions like that would just be over ruled rather than relying on people having get out of jail cards left to play. It's not a cricketer issue, once again its the administrators.

Awful decisions really show why the third umpire should be able to have more of a say in wickets, particularly LBW. It isn't going to slow down the game much, if at all because it takes a few minutes for the next batsman to get out on the field and be ready. It's a shame Warner was taken out when he was our only batsman who was able to go on with an innings thus far

Make of it as you will, but it was a sell out last night at the WACA

It was the final after all. The ratings and attendances for all the pool games were under that of last year by a decent margin.

This is exactly what needs to happen. Would have only taken one replay to determine that both Warner and Moses werent out.

Funny game isn't it? Tailenders with better techniques than someone who bats at 4 :)

I've been wanting to post this about Mitchell Starc for awhile, so I will now. I actually think he's a better batsman than Mitchell Johnson in that I feel you can rely more upon Starc to make some sort of a score.

I'm very impressed with Starc as a cricketer.

hahaha... oh, they've fracked this up massively.

Persistent drizzle for a bit, then no rain for an hour and they call it off.

Cricket Australia, or whoever is responsible for this farce, you should be ashamed.

What the hell has happened??

Clarke being interviewed now - says it was the umpires call to abandon the game due to the poor condition of the outfield.

Park cricketers would play in worse than this.....

Farce

The SCG can't cope with an hour of drizzle?

They tied their hands by going off too early.

Im more pissed off not seeing the end of the Aus vs Eng ODI from yesteryear.

I don't have a great problem with the decision. If the ground is wet they don't play. What was more laughable was the way Ch9 treated its viewers. Seriously, don't bring me back to live until the umpires say they are right to go again. Was a disgrace from a network that has covered cricket for 40+ years.

You read this article from the Telegraph? It's about how effectively the wicket (or the umpire's perception of the wicket) is so much bigger with DRS.
It's a worthwhile read. Interesting about someone like Graham Swan and the amount of LBWs he gets now. Think what Warney might have snared.
By the way, I got a very interesting transmission from Mars re cricket.

"They need to. There were 43 batsmen dismissed lbw during the Pakistan-England Tests, easily a record for a three-match series. LBW represented 42 per cent of the total dismissals in the series. That was about twice what it usually is in Test cricket"
