Ahhh, the million dollar arm of Maxwell spinning a web around the Indian batsmen. Cricket at its finest.

Yes, we have a guy averaging 113 in test cricket, coming off a season where he's snared 2 wickets in the Sheffield Shield (I think) partnering a bloke who can barely claim a spot in the Victorian side for his bowling. And we're playing the best players of spin on their own turf/dirt. The mind boggles.

Winning the toss and batting falls right in our hands really. Means most times on this tour, we will only be bowling once so we only have to work out how to get 10 wickets rather than the usual 20.

Smart captaincy by Clarke.

Maxwell does impose a certain pressure on batsmen. It would be so embarrassing getting out to him.

I've said enough about Doherty (and bowlers of his ilk), I won't say mnuch else except to say if a left arm orthodox bowler wants any success at 1st class level, they need to perfect a ball flicked out the back of the hand that spins back sharply into the right hander. If they can't do that, they're cannon fodder.

Still can't believe we dropped Lyon. Whilst he's not the greatest spinner we've ever produced, he's the best we have over there, yet finds himself out cause they wanted to bring in Maxwell and didn't want two offies (I assume), despite India going ok with two offies.

This would have to be the weakest bowling line up we've gone into a test with for a long time. The combine averages would be disturbing reading.

Or an arm ball like Jedeja that is next to impossible to pick out of the hand.

Neither of them (Maxwell and Doherty) appear to have anything to remotely trouble test batsmen.

Thinking back on your comment re Watson's dismissal and the way they played today just showed you exactly the difference in batsmanship. They made sure they were in, played cautiously, then lit rip. Watson had a few sighters and started to shoot from the hip early. "He thought he was dominating."

Mate, a left arm orthodox bowler should be able to bowl an arm ball at will. Easiest ball to bowl in the kit, you just need to vary it a little to be effective. Doherty and Maxwell are bowlers manufactured by the one-day system, and if ever we needed proof that Australian cricket needs to get back to the Sheffield Shield development program, it's those two bowlers right there. Incompetant at Test level, and an embarrassment to Australian cricket.

The fact that Maxwell can earn $1 million from the game should tell everyone that the game is in real trouble.

Maybe we should play 3 spinners next test - no matter how bad they are. Seriously, our spinners wouldn't get wickets in my local comp.

Out: Doh, Maxwell

In: Johnson, Lyon.

The whole team is a fkcuing shambles. Bits and pieces players here there and everywhere.

We have a weak as shit allrounder who avg's 34 with the bat but he doesn't bowl. Oh, he's also the VC too.

We have a left arm spinner in Doherty that doesn't turn the ball consistently after dropping our main spinner whom took 4 of the 12 wickets to fall in the first test.

We have another allrounder in who's batting avg will be 11 times his bowling average come the end of this test.

We then have Clarke before the first test sprouting that he and Warner will assist with the spinner duties. Warner gets one over of pies for 15 and Clarke decides not to bowl himself to preserve his back.

The list just goes on. Besides Clarke and Patto, you could quite easily come up with an argument why a particular player shouldn't be playing.

I think we can start shovelling dirt on this team.

Maxwell is out of his depth.

Spot on AH, the Indians must be laughing at the team the Aussies selected. Nobody I've spoken to can believe it either. Lots of bits and pieces players best suited in a one-day game not a Test match.

It'll be interesting to see how we come out today. This could be an absolute pounding. I just want to see something. A tiny kick. Some glimmer that we're on the right track...

No argument from me there AH. The best of them have great control combined with variations of flight, angles and spin. They don't tick any of those boxes
