Buchanan demonstrated what a rubbish player he is and needs to be given the arse...nothing but a clanger machine.:thumbsd:

Was very impressed with Tommy Collier's game, hopefully it gives him the confidence to really push on with his career.:thumbsu:

Dylan, Amon got it 20 times tonight and there wasn't one kick it sideways then back, sideways and then back possie in it.

I am going to give the axe a few more weeks to see what he can bring to the team.

Hawksley is a player who I think can develop into a solid player. Still has a long way to go but. In his last two games he only had two tackles. Two last week and zero the week before (noted that round 7 he had 4). I think that this is an area of his game that he needs to pick up on. Let see how he goes tonight.

The Hawker must have read this.:p Good defensive pressure tonight.:thumbsu:

Yeah,he was giving plenty in the pre-season games - I would say give it the rest of the season - he is probably signed for next year anyhow.

The Staker Bakers are back to the drawing board after tonight but I am sure there will be something to seize on.

If the Lions were going to get rid of Travis, what would they realistically want for him?

Buchanon was ok, he really picked some bad choices with some of his kicks going forward though. Hopefully something that will improve. He also just didn't seem agile enough in some areas of play. Could be a match fitness thing, and for the moment worth persisting with.

Poor Sheldon was all out at sea last night, don't think he was ready for a senior call up just yet. He would be the only change i would be looking at. Didn't do a lot wrong, but in a game where we had a lot of the ball, he couldn't get involved in it.

In my opinion Johnstone didn't deserve to be dropped in the first place and his game last night was very good.

Johnstone has played a more desperate, committed and hard-at-it style of football this year and his kicking skills are still highly valuable to the team. I'd still rate him as our best kick to a target inside 50m. There's no other player in the team that I'd rather have getting the ball in the middle and spotting up Fevola and Brown. There's also the fact that Johnstone can work the ball out from tight situations up forward to spot up set shots inside 50m even when it's not a case of being on the run and kicking to a big target.

Unfortunately, it seems as though it doesn't take much for Johnstone to be dropped, which I guess is because Johnstone gets marked harder due to being an older player and carrying the expectancy of being a "star". Yet certain other fringe players can put a couple of bad games together and keep their place in the team, which I find particularly frustrating when Johnstone gets dropped for far less.

BUchanan has demonstrated his poor decision making skills his whole career... and while giving him a chance at the lions to turn it around, each game, he has had costly turnovers, which are so disheartening to a team..

You don't want a good 5 minute build up go the other way in 20 seconds for an easy goal... selwood would show more promise than buchanan... and proud would have been an ideal like for like replacement with more promise...

bring bunno in.. can't afford buchs costly turnovers.

This thread made significantly better by this post.... :thumbsu:

Are you suggesting Black-186cm and Redden-189cm are plodders and not runners acuguy?
If Black's in there to be a running mid not a ball-winner, something's gone wrong.

It's not like it's any massive surprise that Johnstone's inconsistent or Buchanan shanks a few. Fairly well documented I thought.

I will be surprised if Buchanon is dropped. I didn't get to watch any of the match on Saturday night and had to rely on sms updates and finally got to watch the game last night.

Look at the stats for the game. I thought Collier had a good game and he had the same disposal efficiency as Buchanon who some people make it sound like he couldn't hit a target - 60% Power and Banfield were also around the same but Banfield can be excused because a forward has it the toughest. Buchanon also had the most Inside 50's at 8 followed by Rocky Riska and Rich at 6. From memory I think 2 of his kicks resulted in Brown getting 2 goals.

If Collier can play another 5-6 games for the year like that to prove it wasn't a one off performance then there is no way he should be delisted.

Watched the replay, Buchannon did plenty more good things than bad. He had two howlers inside 50 which seem to be sticking in everyones mind. He was instrumental in a few goals, and always looked to take the ball through the center of the ground.

Did some good things.

while we're culling, let's cut that old bastard Luke Power...

...I mean when did he last really play well???

 ;)

Just cutting players, no matter how bad they are doesn't make the team any better.

I'm more interested in how we can improve our list, from both developing what we already have and the addition of new recruits.

I have little interest in listing players who I think should be sacked. Thank god that job lies with someone else!

I just find it curious that when things hit a bad turn, there seems to be more focus on who should go, rather than what we need to do to get better results. I think there is some underlying primal need to have someone punished for our disappointments. ;)

Surely it’s a “Mob Theatre Mentality” of a sacrifice to the Football Gods TBD, it always gives me a giggle if I think of it in a Python-esque sort of way…

Sir Bedevere: “There are ways of telling whether she is a witch.” [read as dud footballer]
Peasant 1: “Are there? Oh well, tell us.”
SB: “Tell me. What do you do with witches?”
Peasant 1: “Burn them.”
SB: “And what do you burn, apart from witches?”
Peasant 1: “More witches.”
Peasant 2: “Wood.”
SB: “Good. Now, why do witches burn?”
Peasant 3: “...because they're made of... wood?”
SB: “Good. So how do you tell whether she is made of wood?”
Peasant 1: “Build a bridge out of her.”
SB: “But can you not also build bridges out of stone?”
Peasant 1: “Oh yeah.”
SB: “Does wood sink in water?”
Peasant 1: “No, no, it floats!... It floats! Throw her into the pond!”
SB: “No, no. What else floats in water?”
Peasant 1: “Bread.”
Peasant 2: “Apples.”
Peasant 3: “Very small rocks.”
Peasant 1: “Cider.”
Peasant 2: “Gravy.”
Peasant 3: “Cherries.”
Peasant 1: “Mud.”
Peasant 2: “Churches.”
Peasant 3: “Lead! Lead!”
King Arthur: “A Duck.”
SB: “...Exactly. So, logically...”
Peasant 1: “If she weighed the same as a duck... she's made of wood.”
SB: “And therefore...”
Peasant 2: “...A witch!”

;)
