Because it worked so well for us this year?

Where are these mature tall forwards/defenders congregating then? Has it just been oversight by 16 clubs that these mature players who everyone missed as younger players are now good enough to play AFL football? Or are opposition teams desperate to get rid of quality talls?

I have no doubt.

But 17 clubs have had their eyes opened now, so the hit rates are going to drop big time.

Add Anthony, Ballantyne, Howlett, Hardingham, Dennis-Lane, Silvagni, Moles to the mature aged guys bought in over the last two seasons who look the goods. The AFL teams have overlooked mature aged guys for a long time and there is a fair bit of talent there if we look. There will be a lot more competition this year but there are certainly a lot of guys who can come in and do jobs. Stars will be hard to find but guys who now know what they need to do and are willing to work to get it done will be available.

I would be surprised if we go with more than two mature agers but I think we will look for one or two.

Delist: Sheldon, Selwood, Austin, Stiller, Raines, MCcauley
Trade possibly: Sherman, Charman
Gold coast: Brennan, Rischitelli, adcock?
Retire: Power, Fevola?

Who are they? Name them please?

24 year old rookie who i assume is bad

Is probably the best ruckman in the QAFL and imo would be a starting 22 player in most teams. Whats the point of delisting him, ruckmen usually don't peak until their late 20's and considering our history with rucks, he's great depth.

We only drafted him last year. Why would we delist him?

I can see him and Leui playing in the ruck and Clark at CHF.
ok then we will delist mculloch we dont need so many ruckmen

ok then we will delist mculloch

No we won't.

Can't imagine any Brisbane Lions supporter who has been paying attention for the last 5 years thinking that having ruck depth is a problem.

Regardless, Bart has true KPP potential, not just ruck. Needs to be given time to grow into his body, and he will be.

No offence, but I am constantly baffled by people who in one thread state that they don't get to see reserves games and then in other threads are making grand pronouncements about players that they haven't been in a position to judge.

No way on earth would anyone in our club delist mccauley....infact, we should be trading on charmo, who costs us a packet and promoting mccauley to the seniours list

no point even debating this

Whats the max number of players you can delist?

I would think none of the below have justified why they should be playing on for us in 2011:

Austin - Doesn't cut it at top level.
Buchanan - Too slow, he tries hard but too slow. Would rather see a kid get his spot.
Charman - Love him too bits but can we justify keeping him on again?
X.Clarke - Unfortunately barely seen anything of him but too injury prone, we have too many injury prone players already.
Johnstone - Too inconsistent. His time has come.
Patfull - Having no influence on games. I forgot he was playing last night when he bobbed up for a rare disposal. Time to try a young KPP in his place.
Power - He's totally lost me and time to retire. Aside from his up and down form, the fact he was smiling and joking 30 seconds after the geelong loss really p1ssed me off when I was hurting.
Raines - See Austin comment
Selwood - Totally useless. Potentially the most ordinary player in the AFL at present.
Sherman - Trade him. He's too inconsistent. I don't want someone that only looks good when the rest of the team does.
Stiller - To slow, disposal too poor, see Austin Comment.

I want to see a clean out of slow, injury prone players. I can't see us pushing for a premiership until we get rid of these guys.

I agree with most of em but you cant really delist 11 senior players like that, if all these guys left we would be filled with youngsters who havent played a game and wouldnt push for a premiership for maybe half a dozen years

We haven't pushed for a premiership for half a dozen years already.

Meanwhile....Collingwood, our foe from the glory days is on top of the table. Something sure went wrong with the last few years. Can we cull and trade out of it, or just play out of it with the squad we have now?

Bad call.

Patfull has had a poor season, but has been very good in previous years and improved every season that he's been on the list (bar the current season). It would be a very bad move to get rid of him on the basis of one bad year.

Despite his poor season, Patfull has still remained in our best 22. The idea of playing Patfull as a tagger through the midfield didn't work and I'd suggest that it went so poorly at the start of the year that it ruined his whole season.

The pies are very very well coached.

Malthouse gets the most out of a very ordinary bunch

He would do wonders with our current list

I find it hard to believe that a bloke who has played 70 odd games in the backline and was moved into a tagging role for maybe a couple - couldn't adapt to playing back again and therefore has ruined his season. Come on he is a professional footballer...somewhat at presnt anyway.
