Hi all. Growing up in the 80s/90s The Cult was one of my favourite bands. Had a couple of big hits with She Sells Sanctuary, Firewoman and Love Removal Machine but never really made it in the big time.

Still a great band at their peak IMO, my favourite records being Electric and Sonic Temple.

Any other fans out there?

I didn't mind them, they were one of the bands that was just "there" in the 80's. Didn't hate them but didn't like them enough to ever really follow them. She sells sanctuary is a great track though.

Was never a big fan of the pirate shirt look and I always though Ian Astbury was a ****?

They did love a Marshall amp IIRC.....

Yep, i would say that's the perfect description of The Cult's career :D

Pirate shirt look? Maybe very early on in their career for a brief minute but I dont recall too many pirate shirt moments.

Loved and still love the Cult. Other favourites, Edie (Ciao Baby), Wildflower, Lil Devil, Earth Mofo. Yes you're right, Electric and Sonic Temple were their 2 best albums. The had an almost Spinal Tap element about them with replacing band memebers.

More American Indian than pirate when they were at their peak I think. I still have a Southern Death Cult cassette kicking around somewhere that someone gave me, and as the name implies, they were pretty Goth at that early stage.

I liked the singles, the only album I've heard was Electric, a bit too rawk for my particular tastes though.

They were my favourite band between Electric & Ceremony. Awesome live band and had really interesting b sides and twelve inches. The wildflower clip totally rocked. Still play them a lot.

True, they were goth-ish early on but definitely moved to more a rock band later on.

Sweet Soul Sister is another of their lesser known songs that I love.

Great band - I only saw them live once at Big Day Out - they were great but were blown out of the water by Ministry who came on immediately afterwards.

My favourite track by The Cult

A great meat 'n' potatoes band. And that is a good thing at times! Great in the car cruising down the highway.

Have about 5 of their albums, but if you want to sample them, their 'best of' album has to be one of the greatest compilations going around. Every album had 3-4 killer tracks and when you put them all on the one album: it is a cracker!

Personally, I love 'She Sells...' and 'Rain' of the 'Love' album.

Tried to find the cheesy video for the Electric release but no dice ..

Saw them at the "venue" , think it was aroun 88-89 ... not long before they tore the old girl down .

One wierd evening ... The Love album was a pretty big hit and Electric had just been released , literally ... the place was packed with Goths on the back of the debut and it was f..kin hilarious .

The boys stormed out ... three guitarists no less ... cowboy gear ... Iain Astbury opens up with the lines ..."Great to be here in Australia ..the home of Bon Scott" ... and then launches into "Bad Fun" at warp speed .

LMAO @ the Gershwin room half full of Ian Smith lookalikes and goths all in unison looking at each other saying WTF?:p

Electric is one of the all time great rock albums

electric was a fantastic album, and 'love' had some great moments as well.

lost interest after 'sonic temple' though - just a bit too 'big american rock' if that makes any sense?

The only songs i like are she sells sanctuary and i have a pretty cool 12" version of sweet soul sister that rocks hard.
