Who is Harvey Dent, and what is his role in Batman mythology?

Was his character in the original Burton film?
Harvey Dent was good friends with Bruce wayne and was also Gothams District Attorney until someone threw acid into his face leaving him disfigured on one side of his body and causing him to go insane turning him into two-face.

According to Nolan, Dent will have a pretty integral role to play in the next two films. Working alongside Batman/Gordon in bringing down the Joker in The Dark Knight, and of course, playing the main antagonist in the next installment.

Be interesting to see how Eckhart plays Dent, given the character is someone the audience is likely to be (at least, in this film) endeared to. That is, after all, what makes the turn so tragic later on.

Beat me to it BNasty.

I like the way Nolan's gone for the cut smile look. The subtlety in putting lipstick to cover the scars and pockmarks is nice too - aside from being insane, it certainly keeps in cue with his "taste for theatrics" in wearing clown makeup.

So far so good.

Some new (spoiler) pics have hit the interweb:

man that looks fracking awesome... this film is defintely gonna rock. Love Ledger's look as the Joker. Insane and scary all f*ck. Plus with Harvey Dent in the film, who's probably my favourite Bat-villain, this film is gonna be the bee's knees.
Apparently, the Scarecrow also makes a cameo, so that should be interesting.

Apparently, the dude from Waking the Dead has been cast as The Riddler, and he is scheduled to be in The Dark Knight. So maybe, they'll introduce The Riddler at the end of this film, or he will just be appearing as his normal self.

Should be awesome anyway.

Doubtful. They already have the Joker and Harvey Dent lined up as Two-Face for the next one. I can't see them having the Riddler involved in any way.

Yeah I agree. Besides, the Riddler is a very campy villain and wouldn't suit the dark tone that Nolan is going for. Riddler's always been a joke, both in the comics and film.

I reckon they could make him dark. Jim Carrey made him very dark considering the tone of Batman Forever. I reckon that performance was massively underrated.

I can see The Riddler as a demented genius who sets near-impossible to solve Riddles and enjoys the idea of them going unsolved and thousands dying because of it.

I have never looked forward to a movie as much as this one, The Joker has always been my fav Villian and I reckon Ledger is gonna pull it off.

Well, Nolan has already confirmed that Two-Face will be the main villain for the third installment (seeing as they're looking at doing the trilogy thing). We're expected to see Joker instigate the Dent transformation by the end of this film, paving the way for the third installment (where Joker himself is expected to appear, apparently).

I reckon they'll have him before he becomes The Riddler. At least, I hope so.
Might introduce him in the third one. Can't see Edward Nigma in the second one, it'd be too many villains being introduced.
