No apologies if a thread has already been created in the topic.

Don't really know where to start.

How good is that album?

I haven't enjoyed an album this much EVER. Something about a monster riff accompinied by a hardcore castrato, pink leotard wearing rock god belting out catchy as **** songs with ripping solo's somewhere in the middle somehow gets me going. And finally, some rock ballads that don;t make me vomit.

I a moved to create this thread only because I have given the album some time off after bashing it to death for a month or so, and it still evokes everything it did the first time I heard the opening riff to Black Shuck.

Usually I don't like it when great bands start getting awards, chart success etc because it can lead to trouble, but I reckon the music world needs this band.

Post your tributes below..............

Agreed. Saw them at BDO. Shame they were on at 1230 but they definately kicked off the day with a bang.

Ive been cranking The Mars Volta of late.

agree here too... don't like it as much as you do, but it's a quality cd... i wish i apreciated it more when they were out here for the big day out... i've only gotten into it the last couple of weeks

Yardstick indeed.

By the way, can you please explain that little message under your username there mate?

Just thought I would bring your attention to the typo..............

Quite refreshing MUSIC !!! It ROCKS me back to where it all started, back in the sensational 70's !!

The Darkness HAVE COURAGE !!

North have Courage also !! :D

they're very silly, and they rock, which is a good and underexploited combination.

NorthBhoy, couldn't agree with you more. Absolutely LOVE this album. The first time I heard Growing on Me on the radio, I thought it was a good track, but then didn't listen to The Darkness for about a month afterwards. Heard Growing on Me again on the radio, and kept driving straight to Sanity to pick up the Album. It's the best contemporary album I've bought since I can remember!!

I'd cycle through the ten songs probably 7 or 8 times a day, for the last 2 months, and I cannot get sick of them. The old school guitar riffs, and the refreshingly annoying voice of the lead singer, coupled with something that's a bit more fun than serious is just what the rock world needs.

In saying that, hardly any of my mates like them, which I don't have a problem with. They sound to me like one of those bands that you instantly love, or hate.

Best band around at the moment by panels.

(The only song I'm not really in to is Friday Night- possibly the corniest lyrics I've ever heard  )

... doesn't look like it!:p

And how can you not like them? They're grouse!;)

God bless the Poms, the greatest rock nation on Earth have produced the goods again!!!

Much like the Beatles, Stones, Who, Led Zeppelin (to name a select few) before them, the Darkness have taken hold of modern music & reminded us all what great rock is all about. Catchy tunes, indulgent solo's, power chords you could cut with a knife, over the top vocals, they have got the whole package.
"Permission to land" is an instant classic, let's hope the Darkness don't lose it & continue to record more albums as brilliant & as timely as this one.

Except for the wasteland of the middle 90's where there were very few decent bands.

And yes, The Darkness rock!

May i suggest that if you havent already, get your hands (ears) on their cover of Radiohead's "Street Spirit".

Had me in tears for all the right reasons.

And i hope you Radiohead fans out there who no doubt are missing the point of The Darkness do so also and HATE it for all the reasons that i love it!

It sounds like it has to be purchased. :)

Does it bear any resemblance to the all time #1 greatest band ever, Led Zeppelin?
More AC/DC meets Queen mate.

They know what they're doing isn't Shakespeare but thats the beauty and value of it. Any fuss that this band has created (not by their own doing) is completely missing the point.

As soon as you hear the crunching, galloping guitars stacking up in the opening moments of "Black Shuck" you will smile the smile that signifies that YES, you've just found the band that you've been waiting years to hear!

Put simply, The Darkness are so f**king ROCK it hurts! A joyous, magnificent kind of hurt, mind you.

Then you'll hear singer Justin Hawkins kick in with that voice - a screaming falsetto that could shatter glass and derail freight trains!

It's way, way out there. Like Freddie Mercury gone mental metal; camper than Ray's Tent City and totally magnificent!

Get it. Go on, go now!

Great call, Carlos. The Malcolm Young crucnhing guitar is certainly visible from the outset, but you can hear so many influences right through the album. One can imagine Creedence Clearwater Revival or Status Quo performing "Given up" or AC/DC performing "Get your hands off my woman". Twisted Sister is strangely another group that came to mind when listening to this album. Let's hope this group, along with the upcoming Gunners best of, sparks the 70's and 80's c--k-rock comeback that the music industry is crying out for :D

Best description of THE DARKNESS I've ever heard.

Post of the millenium. This one goes straight past Musashi and into a different league!

I'm reliably informed that a lot of Americans just don't get them, which in true seppo style means that they don't like them.

No complaints in my house though.
