I decided to make an everything guitar thread so that everyone that plays guitar can discuss, well put it simply, anything about the guitar and get help from others. This can range from anything to theory to songwriting skills to how crap Kurt Cobain is :D. And I apologize if a thread like this has already been made or if it's in the wrong spot, but it kinda is related to music.

how about those pentatonic scales ey?

I play a bit of guitar, has an epiphone les paul, im a bass player by trade however, i only dabble in guitar nowdays, hardest thing i can play would be master of puppets untill kirk starts soloing

I don't use pentatonics these days, I use the 7 modes, get some really nice runs out of it.

Hey don't worry, master of puppets is a hard song, even though your a bass player why not try and do the solo, imagine your on stage, do a kickarse bass solo then switch over to geetar and play a kick arse geetar solo! That'd be sweet.

Hey guys,
I used to play in bands, wrote the songs, played guitar harp and mandolin.Unfortunately two young boys have slowed me down a bit.Currently setting up a recording studio.Have also mixed live bands, all sorts from metal to cajun.More than happy to contribute if you need to know anything.

I've been playing for almost 5 years and have only recently formed a band.

A question for anyone with experience, how do you manage having two guitarists in a band?

I focused mainly on technique when learning to play and didn't pay as much attention as I should have to the theory side, wheras our other guitarist is the opposite - he has good knowledge of scales and soloing, but doesn't play things as cleanly as I do.

And if we don't have two seperate guitar parts throughout a song we end up playing the same thing and it really detracts from the sound. Any advice on writing pieces for another guitar when you already have the basis of a song?

It really depends what you want to do, and there's the old cliche' that music is something expressive. For example, if you both wanted to do solo's at the same time, do them in harmonies e.g work out a nice lead break and your other guitarist harmonizes it by using a third, fifth or seventh note above. What you can also do is in the intro depending on what kind of music, someone can play a nice riff, dosen't have to be fast, it can be melodic, again it all comes down to what you feel and what kind of music you play. Also another thing is have one guitar playing in the choruses, with the other playing a nice runs that "match" the vocals.

I admit that i don't have 20 years of experience but I have done a few gigs here an there, and these things have helped me out. Another thing to look up is Led Zeppelin acoustic songs, particularly Over the hills and far away. Jimmy Page combines two guitars brilliantly, worth a look. Hope this helped. (Nice guitars btw)

Got a question for whoever uses them, Is there any real difference in quality and sound between the Ibanez Tubescreamer TS-7 and TS-9? I'm looking for a good overdrive pedal for shred I know a few shred players who used these pedals before they get their signature pedals.

I don't think there's much difference between the two. I've got a VS Jekyll & Hyde V2 which is supposed to emulate the 808, has lots of options and I'm really happy with it, I'm no shredder though...
