As time has passed everyone seems to have forgotten the underlining purpose of Collingwood and Carlton. They exist to beat each other, this has been so since the beginning of the VFL/AFL. Sure other teams have arrived, but they really are just a side show to the main reason football is played. Its not about where you finish on the ladder or even winning flags, it is about defeating the evil that is Carlton. Winning games against Carlton is all that matters this post is to remind you all to remember what is important.

It is the forgotten war people have been distracted by shiny objects and their mundane lives or the pointless media cycle. The eye has been taken off the ball.

The Story So Far.....(in a suburb far far away)
Carlton was born form evil. Self entitled prats (no pun intended!) who used their money & influence to rape the poor and vulnerable working class. For every evil there is good though and Collingwood alone took the fight to the beast and war has raged between the two inner city suburbs ever since. As many victories as defeats were had on both sides, which simply brewed the hatred more and more over a century and more.

Most Carlton supporters cannot tell you why they are called the Blues. This is because the evil in their name is hidden from them for marketing purposes. They called themselves the Blues as they wanted to bring depression and sadness to all others. Some say the Carlton secret powers were the ones responsible for the great depression in the twenties and brought the Blues across the land. The only team to fight back at this time was the Pies Machine dominating football for the decade and bringing joy to the down trodden. The Blues to this day bring depression to us when they win.

Recently the battlefront has been quiet. Primarily this was due to the above mentioned distractions, but also due to the internal crumbling of the Carlton football club. The end of the nineties saw the beginning of the tide turn against the Blues, their cheating ways were exposed and penalised and the downward spiral began. Oh how we celebrated. As they were recovering from this a Collingwood agent (who will remain nameless) managed to lead the Blues into a dark dark hole, again evil was squashed by Collingwood alone. In the same time Collingwood close to broke at the end of the nineties rose to become a power club envied by all and an army of followers urging them on. It felt like the war was won. Carlton had become a benign rabble and no threat to anyone.

However, in 2016 an alarming thing happened. We lost to Carlton. Not since the great one had been forced to exit from the Carlton leadership had this happened. It was shocking and ugly, but a wake up call that we always need to be vigilant for evil never rests. It must be stamped out violently and with no mercy. We must all unite and rise again to defeat the old enemy.

The Fight Has Just Begun
So far the win loss record looks like this:
-Collingwood 122 wins with 20,457 points for
-Carlton 126 wins with 20,059 points against
-4 Draws

Whilst ahead on points we are behind on wins. Our loss this year meant we cannot now equalise the record until 2018. We were on track to do it next year and that is the great disaster of that game. We cannot afford another loss. So people we need to be in this for the long term. We cannot afford further losses. We cannot relax and must push on until we have righted that glaring blight on our clubs win loss record.

They are called the blues because their founders had some prophetic capabilities, (they are also part of the illuminati - their monogram is really an abstract 'all seeing eye') and their wise prophet foretold of a tiMe when Carltoon would suffer have to atone atone for their sins after a great judgment brought on by by the 'higher powers'...... During this period, which is to last for 2-3 decades, the club was prophesied to be anchored in hell (bottom 8) and be *******ed (with a wooden spoon) regularly... The prophet aptly, in anticipation of this DARK, OLD, period decided that that the BLUES would be their nickname...

This story is contained in the 13th book of the original VFL founding documents but has been hidden in the secret libraries of the AFLatican.

I know a 20 something Pies fan who doesn't really 'get' the hate for Carlton. Have we dropped our guard? Have we gotten complacent?

Im 32 and I don't hate them as much as I do other teams.

The part of rivalry is that the whole club buys in which includes the playing group.

I will try find the articles but MM went about dismantling the rivalry within the playing group when he sprouting on about blockbuster fatigue.
He didn't want it used as a motivator any more this was mid 2000s, next thing you know it was they are just another side for 4 points.

When the players don't care it resonates into the crowd and into the tv rooms.

Also the people around you ie school work friends etc all help shape peoples personal dislike of teams.
I hate Essendon with a passion due to 5 close friends all Bummer supporters with myself the sole pie. Also the media love fest for hird and bombers throughout the late 90s and early 2000s made me want to vommit.

Carlton these days are irrelevant 15 years of shitefulness has seen them reduced to an also ran club with a mediocre support base.

Malthouse's record in Carlton vs Collingwood games is 14 wins & 16 losses. Now on the surface you think well that is not terrible. But it is when you consider for over a decade he coached a dominant side that made the finals a lot including 4 grand finals and he was against a Carlton side who for the better part of a decade were crippled by shitefulness.

In that time Carlton consistently made a point of getting themselves up for that game and beating us - the better side for the most part.....that is until Malthouse went to Carlton and applied his theory to Carlton and we all know how that ended up (yay!).

This year what did Brendan Bolton do first time we played them? He rolled out all the club legends to talk to the players about how important it is to beat Collingwood. It worked, they came out and belted us and we were unprepared for their intensity.

Malthouse's theory was flawed, he stubbornly refused to acknowledge that the opposition would lift themsleves for one game that was only worth 4 points as it didn't make sense to him. He did water the rivalry down though on both sides, but to the detriment of the sides he was coaching.

Sit them in front of a telly and repeatedly play (in their entirety) the 1970, 1979 and 1981 GFs (finishing off with Wayne Harmes' 1979 "tap" from the boundary on an endless loop).

you missed one tiny little point. Collingwood has played Carlton in 6 grand finals and has lost 5 of them. I think that I have lived through all the losses and have not experienced the win.... this is not the subject for a light-hearted thread

Its best not to draw attention to this Mark as it makes people sad.

Eternal vigilance must be maintained. The evil wants to lull us into complacency and indifference. While the power of Collingwood has dwindled the shadow grows ever darker. Border riders report seeing smoke rising from the tower of visy and drums can be heard coming from its depths. I fear dark forces have risen again...
edit... nah relax.. they're still shit.
