Loved seeing Jetta back in Swans gear over the last few days.

He didn't change clubs, he just moved houses.

Tony Armstrong now has as many Logies as AFL career goals!

There is no way Brandon Jack would ever get published if he didn't have that name. His article in the SMH today is basically a transcription of what he overheard outside Randwick racecourse last weekend. I think it was supposed to be poignant...

Being most of the way through his way book, 28, I have to disagree. I'm impressed by how well Brandon Jack writes. It's a lot different from his articles in the SMH though - less uni-student and political. It's raw and honest and provides interesting insights to the life of a footy player. It's not super-mature but he was only about 25 years old when he wrote it so I am more than prepared to forgive that.

I was searching to find any discussion of his book on BF but I can't find much at all. Is that because there was none - does anybody know? Thanks.

Just heard former South player Austin Robertson jnr has passed away at age 80. His dad had been a fine player for us.

Austin impressed as a fast leading full forward for us and was an elite kick. Unfortunately his career with us was brief as he returned to WA to become a legend there. He was also a key figure in Packer WSC.

RIP.

I just posted a thread on it

Sad to hear. Hope he's OK.

The Saints confirmed on Saturday morning that Membrey was withdrawn from the starting 22 due to a personal health matter, replaced by Anthony Caminiti.

“Membrey is currently receiving appropriate care and treatment due to a personal health matter” The Saints said in a statement.

Same could have been said 2 years ago as well. He had interest from other clubs (likely Crows and Vic clubs), hadn't had his 2022 run of games yet either, but decided to stay and fight for a spot. Crows midfield/wing spot looked an easier earn at the time, same for Pies if they were one of the interested parties, plus other clubs like Hawks, North, Saints, Tigers.

I hope he stays. The fact we are reportedly very keen to retain should signal to him we see a possible future for him in the 22.
I think it is unlikely he stays. He should have been picked ahead of JMac for the final but was not. He would be livid over that and I would not blame him. It was a terrible decision by a biased coach. I don't think Longmire likes him. Longmire has pers and players he does not like.
These are players he did not like;

Aliir
Hewett
Newman
Jones
Rohan
Mitchell
Stephens

The way some of these players were treated was a disgrace to the footy club. For a club who prides ourselves on how we treat people some of these people were badly treated. Nick Newman was moved on because he was too vocal about GLBTI rights. Mitchell because Longmire hated him. Hewett similar. Jones definitely because Longmire did not like him. Rohan for footy reasons but with no explanation. He never had a clue that was coming. Aliir had always been a problem for Longmire. He simply did not like the kid. In fact he went out of his way not to play him. Then when he cemented himself and got injured he found every excuse not to play him when hd was fit. Then he insisted on playing him in the ruck or forward. Even after this was not needed. Longmire is human. We don't like everybody we meet. But as Leigh Matthews said about Akka, even though he thought him a dick he still played him for his ability. Matthews hated Akka. But he played in 3 premierships. If you are a coach you have to be above hatreds.

Jordan would not replace Dyl. He is more a mid than a wing player. I know Dyl would rather play mid than wing and that is the major problem with his contract. The other problem I see is Longmire. I have a feeling he does not like Dylon, the same as he did not like Tom Mitchell. If you are a coach you have to go beyond emotions and it seems John can't. He may have cost us a Premiership by hating a player.

Jordan is a pure mid. A clearance player. Who is really clever and uses the ball really well. He will fit into our mids with Sheldrick, Warner, Gulden, Rowie, Mills. Parker to go forward. Clark, finally not needed as Parker will be that strong, both offensive & defensive forward.

Develop Arnold, a new KPD Draftee, keep Melican & Francis.

Over the Summer I'd like to see Plugger work with the forward group about positioning and set up. At the moment we are too bunched and static. They all fly for the same ball. There should never be more than one Key forward flying for a mark and the others should be positioned in different areas to draw the tall traffic away from any contest. This would mean if the ball hits the ground there are crumbers. But more importantly it gives every KPF a one on one. Which I think most of them can win.

Actually I was being a bit sarcastic about chasing butterflies with trades. Jordan might be worth a look but not Harmes.
Interesting comment about Longmire disliking Stephens and Mitchell. I think most coaches have players they get along with and others they don't. Not sure that Longmire is any better or worse than most.
Not so sure about the one on ones in the forwards though. I think often forwards block for each other and are not actually getting in each other's way. Having said that, I think that applies more once F50 gets crowded. A fast entry that allows for a couple of one on ones is very nice to get. I'm unconvinced by Macca though I think he's much better than Steve Johnson.

Not sure if previously discussed but reckon Horse went off Dyl after the Giants game earlier in the year? When u look at the replay of Toby’s last minute winner, u can see Dyl had every chance to smother/touch the ball (and save the game), but his feeble effort meant the Giants won. Was dropped and never a regular since. Hopefully just a bump in the road cause I think he can still be a future star for us.

Interesting to find out what happened behind the scenes years later. What happened to Newman seems a bit harsh, given Swans support for Pride round and inclusiveness. Maybe it became too much of a distraction from his football at the time.
