I lost a sister to suicide 20 years ago. Ali was just 28 and endured a hell of a battle. It's a long time of healing and coming to acceptance. But I will always remember the words of the grievance counsellor telling us 'suicide is never the answer'. It really isn't.

This is not a swipe at Jarryd Dawson or anyone else. I absolutely recognise the realities of mental health and the impact it has on the sufferer. But if any of my brothers and sisters on big footy are ever entertaining such ideas, please reach out for help. There are so many more tools and support today than there was 20 years ago. I think most people would refrain from judgement, do anything to be supportive and would hate to see you walking alone.

I'm sure I won't be alone in sparing a thought for the Dawon family tonight.

He's playing through several roles for the Roos, going where needed. His body is holding up just as many thought it would, and as a pinch hitter in midfield when needed would have been fine. You can't tell me someone like a Corey Warner is adding more in the current side.
