Would he? If he's not getting a game for Port he wouldn't command any more than a late 2nd round at the earliest or one of our fringe players like Woods.

I'd trade our 3rd round pick for Pickett in a heartbeat.
Mate, Port would never give up Pickett for a 3rd round pick.

Most seem to think Ryder will go around 8-10 so we could be there abouts. In terms of a player who we could add in a trade, how about we gave our pick and Dion Woods to Essendon for their pick? They always seemed to have a liking for him.
Room Dion with Dean Rioli and Dion would fill out really quickly.

Saw Ryder play last weekend, he looks a likely type, as stated probably more as a KPP or tall flanker rather than ruckman.

Sure. You've obviously forgotten such luminaries as Adam Butler, Brett Doswell, Greg Edgecumbe, Ashley Clancy and everyone's favourite Daniel Schell.
It goes both ways Dr, we've had our share of dud players that we've traded for with draft picks.

Azza's point, as serious as it was, seemed to be that we should hold onto our draft picks. Players we have got through trading are Matty Carr, Josh Carr, Farmer, Bell, McPharlin, Headland, Heath Black, Schofield and arguably Dylan Smith.

By my count, leaving out Schofield and Smith, thats seven of our top 10 players. You might wonder where would be if we hadn't traded and kept getting draft picks. Draft picks take a long time to come through. I haven't noticed a lot of patience on this board or in the media.

Another aspect is that there is a changing of thinking at AFL clubs where they are starting to look at more mature age recruits. This is coming from research done in the NFL in the states. Picking up kids aged 17-20 is a risky business. Waiting till their older and/or mature increases the chances of success -- Exhibit 1 -- Crowley.

There are a few good young East Freo players coming through, and other West Aussie's. We should snap some of these up. We certainly don't need Hay to come home (injury prone). Don't forget our backline has been minus Haddrill (injury) and Woods (form) in terms of height this year.

Keep the picks and build around the core we have to win a flag in the next couple of years.

Unfortunately we keep producing players for the AFL, they dont last at Freo long enough to have made a difference.

Unlike the dogs who dont have their players drafted and provide a nursing home for football players. :p

Surely the team is at a stage in its development where we are not looking for a "name" player to fill a gap. If there is someone who wants to come home and we have the upper hand in a trade, then go for it. But otherwise bank the future, don't eat it.

There was an article in the Australian on Saturday that Port is shopping Bryon Pickett. And one the clubs they have spoken to is WA club. Given WCE have basically a no-trade policy, it might be us. He seems to have lost his way at Port and he would add plenty of speed.

I think Steven Amstrong for a third round pick would be value. Apparently, he's playing good footy but Melbourne have plenty of his type. He would add depth to the list, and is quicker than what we have now. But does lack size.
b pickett to old we already have a pensioner in schofield stick to youth

Given the state of our list we won't be trading for players. We will most likely lose someone though. Fremantle should treat this season very similarly to 2003 where we drafted Dunn, Murphy, Mundy, Campbell and Peake. Not to mention Johnson via the PSD.

It would be great to have a number of picks in the top 20. Hopefully securing us another Ruckman (200cm+) and 2 quality pacy midfielders. If fremantle are truly looking towards our future that would be our deficiencies at the moment.

Dunn has yet to make a significant impact, same with Murphy. Both next year will probably be in our best 22. We have enough depth at the moment to secure more qualities youngsters and really secure our future for the next 10 years.
