Rod Jameson was talking about the future of the AFC on the ABC after the game tonight, notably that he is seriously concerned by our ruck deprtment and midfidled. The midfield isn't working hard enough, doesn't have enough top talent, and we have a number of #2/3 ruckmen but not one #1 ruckman on our list - he thinks Maric and Griffin have the capability, but neither is handling the expectations well, and they only seem to have one good game in six, never at the same time.
He also listed all the changes at the end of season. Aside from the already retired Goodwin, Edwards, Burton and the likely to retire McLeod, Jameson also said there's little practical chance of Hentschel being kept, and suggested that both Jacky and Moran are in some serious strife and facing a real uphill battle to keep their careers alive.
), the Moran scenario. He has shown at least as much (if not more) re the potential to be a 1R than either of Maric and Griffin, and in far less games as well as being slightly younger. I've no doubt that with the amount of games that Maric and Griffin have played, Moran would be far more developed and easily be better than the other options.Interesting discussion, which i agree with, except (surprisingly), the Moran scenario. He has shown at least as much (if not more) re the potential to be a 1R than either of Maric and Griffin, and in far less games as well as being slightly younger. I've no doubt that with the amount of games that Maric and Griffin have played, Moran would be far more developed and easily be better than the other options.
The major query is his injury status but given our ruck status, he should be given one more year imo. Is currently the only potentially good 1R on the list.
While I'm on it, what could we get for Maric in a trade. He would be our ruck of highest value at present, yet i don't believe he is anywhere near consistently good enough to be 1R, and doesn't have enough strings to the bow to be a 2R. Yet again he teased us at the start of the season but has failed to sustain more than half a year due to form.
), Mackay and Douglas, on top of Thompson and Vince. Sloane will be an elite contested ball winner, unfortunately will probably always lack the polish to be a true elite footballer. Otten we'll have to wait for. Now whilst I believe there's potential in our list, we cannot and I mean cannot sit on our laurels and hope for them to develop as we think they might. We actively need to search out another elite midfielder or two through tradeweek and/or the draft.
If Edwards, McLeod and Davis are out and Bock, Symes and Henderson comes in
is 2 weeks a long time?
yeah, we'd be a good 200 days younger than on the weekend, but we'd still be 15 days older than the game the weekend before that
I went and got all age stats just for interest
The youngest team we've ever fielded was round 3 1997 at 23 years 181 days, while the oldest was round 16 2006 at 27 years 63 days
without going deep into averages, 2003 and 2006 would of been our oldest teams on average while 1995 would of been our youngest
Neil Craig would on average have the oldest team on the park just ahead of Ayres with Shaw and Blight on average having the youngest
The youngest team Neil Craig has coached was his 4th game at 24 years and 61 days
In 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 we never fielded a team under the age of 25
now, those are some totally random (useless) stats
That is incorrect, the team we fielded was 23 years 310 gamesBump.
If Riggy was right: "The youngest team we've ever fielded was round 3 1997 at 23 years 181 days," and my calculations are right
This week's team IS THE YOUNGEST EVER!
Round 21 2010: 23 years 160 days.
That is incorrect, the team we fielded was 23 years 310 games

Leaving it as the youngest since round 1 2001.
