I'm off to the gabba for round one but have never been to Brisbane.

Anyone have any recommendations on what area to stay in for a couple of days and the best way to get to the ground?

Stay near Kangaroo Point or Woolloongabba if you want to walk to the game. But the city is much nicer.

The Pineapple hotel is a pub down the road from the Gabba that a lot of Pies fans go to before the game. Not sure if it's still a QLD Magpies official meeting anymore but there should be some people there. It's not too bad.

Also, there isn't a whole lot to do in Brisbane but if you have interests I can maybe make a few recommendations.

What sort of accommodation are you after?

The city is great.

I also like West End as a good place to stay if you like live music and good food.

No idea how convenient they are for getting to the Gabba though.

Some people love West End because it's got some culture in an otherwise culture-less, basic-bitch of a city, but to me it's a nightmare. Nowhere to park (no problem for Shellz unless she hires a car), too far to walk from most things except all the little boutique cafes, restaurants and shops in West End. You can catch a bus to pretty much anywhere but the price of public transport here is ludicrous - no trains at that part of town. You're better off staying at South Bank which is quite nice, walking access to the city, walking access to West End just (I'd probably pay the 7 or 8 bucks for a cab).

In fact yeah, now that I think about it, if you've got some money to play with stay in the city or at South Bank. That way you have a few things nearby to waste some time looking at.

Just a tip, for anyone going up, give the Queensland Magpies a call and make sure you go to the pre match function.

Hey Shellz I went a couple of years ago and stayed at the Mantra.
It's near the train from the airport and the, (not so far away) bus took us to the ground.
I was only there one night so we didn't explore any of Brisbane.
Given we're doing the fly in and fly out again I just picked a cheap spot in Spring Hill for the moment

I'm going with my dad and my friend. So a nice hotel but not super pricey!

Probably sounds like South bank is the go and we can walk to west end to eat?

Shellz Mantra is on Southbank and it included breakfast when we stayed.
You'll be blown away at how high the river got during the floods!
