What actually is it?

I think there are more problems with this than any particular player or form of the players. I actually the gameplan or lack thereof is putting our players out of form. Maybe it is too complicated, I would keep it simple.

What I'd like to see from here on in
- Throw out whatever we are doing now
- Encouraging more one on one matchups (even from kickins)
- No opposition loose man for the rest of the season, even if it means we have 8 forwards
- Encourage risk taking through the centre, tell the players that the coaching staff will wear any mistakes that result in turnovers through there
- Forward entries to be in hotspot directly out in front, leading to the pocket or kicks to pocket will result in the player being dragged.
- Forwards to stay at home more and less pushing up to the wing.
- Kickins to be immediate without delay, kicks long to flanks will be banned.

just on the bolded bit. why is it other teams always seem to manufacture this against us?
why can never seem to have an open forward line whilst having the spare man back?

or is it just because we dont have a gun at it so whilst we have the loose man back their they're lasrgely ineffectual?

and yes, it is now keep it simple o'clock.

i liked it last year how we'd hit up a target and then without hesitation they'd be turning to play on. it's exciting at least. sure it meant we had some turnovers and then a few over the back goals, but at least we were giving our forwards a chance.

contested possession is the mantra...

however we move the ball very slowly and all too often give the ball to a stationary target...where we get eaten alive by a defender sweating the contest...

I think we should hit the spaces quickly and make muppets like McKay, Henderson, Van Berlo and Co. earn their crust!

We actually often prefer to have an extra one around the contest, which may marginally help to win a clearance, but then where does the kick go? You guessed it, straight to the loose.

I would also add that we don't have a footballer that is smart enough to play a loose.

true, good point.

and on your second point, we must have surely? al our players cant be dumb footballers. maybe we just havent discovered they have it in them yet. What about Smith? he's tall enough to take a mark, damaging enough by foot, fast enough to make it to contests/intercept, and he hasnt proven himself to stupid yet.

He would probably be your best bet. It is all about positioning and reading the play.

Sloane would go ok too. Actually Walker would kill it if you threw him back there, because he has football smarts.

I think the great sides are strong at contested footy, however they compliment it with great spread and outside run. We just seem to go from contest to contest with no easy possession. If we're down on contested possession we generally won't win the game.

We need fast quick receivers, and we need to drastically improve the quality of disposal.

Lot of basic errors in the back 50 today. Richmond seemed to be confident in pressing forward. We simply aren't clean enough, our own worst enemy.

Is it just inexperience?

Speed is a component, but it's the ability to find space and run to the right areas.

We kick too often to a player on a lead with someone right up his clacker. Especially forward entries. We have no understanding of kicking to the advantage side, or kicking to the space and drawing the forward towards the ball.

I don't disagree with what you are saying, I just think speed and the ability to break the lines is what breaks up opposition defences and drags them out of position and allows team mates to find space alot easier.
