Its hard but also simple at the same time.

Hard because the players dropped dont deserve to be dropped and all of them are extremely unlucky. But its also easy because we all know who they will be, whether they deserve it ot not, the tough calls will simply just have to be made.

IN: Scarlett, Milburn, Chapman and Wojack

OUT: Varcoe, Prismall, Gamble and Byrnes

***DO NOT DROP HARRY TAYLOR***

Its ridiculous how the selectors think Byrnes is more valuable than Varcoe.

In total games this year Byrnes has been better once, which was on the weekend. I'm expecting Varcoe to be the 1st one omitted which is sick.

OUT: Varcoe, Prismall, Gamble and Byrnes

I don't know if North will load up forward this week against your very good back line. I don't know how effective doing that will be, as we are finally seeing some balance and consistency in our forward line.

Over the past month or so, we have pretty much had a small forward line with McMahon, Boomer, Campbell, Thomas and Grant circling around Hale who has been playing pretty deep. The other thing is that I would expect Macintosh to return this week, so Petrie will be playing CHF and up the ground.

As great as your backline is, I can't wait to see the duel between Scarlett and Hale-should be a great game.

Well Scarlett hardly played last time, so will be interesting.

I hope Hale is prepared to chase.:D

I was there.....Rooke was terrible. We do not have a clue what his role was, however in a blow out in the 2nd and 3rd quarters you'd expect him to at least get a few touches.....wasn't even near it.

He can throw his body into contests and tackle, however if that is all he is doing is that worthy of a place in the team?

I've said it a few times over the last few weeks that Rooke's output has been well below par. I'm unsure if that is because I expect more out of him, but he hasn't looked the part for about 2 or 3 weeks out of the last 5.

When we have to bring back so many, I can't see keeping Rooke over some guys who have performed. Sure he may not be the same type of player, however if he is being carried more than not, then he shouldn't be kept.

I think there's a lot of similarity between Rooke and Varcoe actually. Wouldn't be surprised if Varcoe stays dropped while Rooke is playing badly. We can't really afford to have two guys in the team purely for their tackling pressure, if neither are getting the ball. And if it ever came down to that decision, Varcoe will always be first to go.

I think they also keep Rooke because he can go big if necessary, or tag, or go forward/back/middle. I mean, Thompson doesn't throw players around particularly, but the versatility is a massive asset. Who is to say he wouldn't be doing the same as Gamble if he got to play his role?

We have an abundance of midfield talent & a great backline. As you said, we don't know what his role is - but with our possession getters, obviously getting the ball isn't his main one. I suggested dropping him last week, but they never will. And didn't the senior players demand his selection after the Collingwood game?

I've called for his head a few times, here and elsewhere, but I love him in the team.

(Actually, I reckon he's just in the team to ensure he stays fit for his one and only role for the season - coming off the line in the Grand Final...;))

I dont think we can drop Varoce, Byrnes and Gamble at the same time.
All three add add to attacking variety. we replace only with Chapman, the rest play of the backline? Exzcept Wojak who runs and carries from half back, but you get my point. One of those three will stay IMO...........perhaps Rooke might get the holiday this week?? Either way Tudor must be rubbing his hadns together - he gets a full team this week!!

One of Scarlett, Wojak or Chapman will not make it.

Outs: Taylor, Gamble/Varcoe, Byrnes.

Taylor - Done nothing wrong at all. Really deserves his spot, however with two key backman coming back from injury, it's logical to to push out a tall backman, however North to push us for hieght last time, yet that was without the General.

Gamble/Varcoe - Played ok games but really are the weaker forwards.

Brynes - Never earnt his spot to begin with. Better players have been axed after a good game. Just ask Prissa. One game does not make a player. I'm hopeful we're building his profile to use in trade week.

and varcoe was one really bad kick away from matching shannon with goals...and that bit of play when he just kicked the ball of the ground up in the air in front of himself and nearly ran onto it but mackie got possession hungry and knocked him over.

Rooke's job was to shut down Kirk, I think, and he did it well

He brings incredible heat to contested situations. The other team backs off a little and it gives Ablett and co the room to get the ball. IF you can't see this, you need to go back to the tape and watch it closer

After the Collingwood loss, the senior players told Thompson that Rooke had to be in the side. When things get locked down into an arm wrestle Rooke is one our our most valuable players. When the games flowing you might not notice him, but pay close attention when scoring drops and it's one ball up after another

With top spot sewn up and our no risk policy with injuries do we actually think that Scarlett, Milburn, Wojinski and Chapman will actually come back this week?

Does anyone actually have any knowledge of their recovery from their specific injuries?

We all seem to be naming the same 3-4 players but i just wonder if they will all be risked coming back at once

I do not envy the anxiety some of those boys will be feeling over the next few weeks. Hope Taylor stays in and plays finals. Byrnes, just like he did last year turns out a decent game just in time.

Pleease keep the Pris in :(

IMO the ins will be Scarlett,Milburn and Chapman. Woja to play in Vfl.
Corey and Kelly to push up into the midfield.
Out- Prismall,Gamble and Varcoe. Prismall stiff but no room in the midfield with Corey and Kelly moving back there.

I think Scarlett does a lot of damage when he takes off from near the half-back line. He will likely be forced to play very deep again.

From memory Thompson, Hansen, Jones, Edwards, Smith and Wells also didn't play last time in round 11.

Jones, Hansen and Wells are in the current side, Edwards wont come up and it is probably doubtful that N. Thompson will play. Smith is shot for the year. Of those that did play Riggio, Lower, Davies and S. Thompson aren't in the current side and McIntosh hasn't been back in the seniors since being injured.

I am not sure who is in your best 22 but from memory Selwood was the only one I recognised that was missing from the last game.

From our round 11 clash I think it is likely to be:

Out: Brown, S. Thompson, Davies, Riggio and Lower
In: Jones, Hansen, Wells, Watt and Sinclair

That assumes McIntosh will replace Brown this week.

I'd like to see Petrie play on Mooney and have Rawlings on Ablett. I don't expect them to shut them out entirely but we lost the round 11 game thanks to career best performances by those two in particular when we had bad matchups on them when the bulk of the damage was done.

I think all 4 will be back because they need to find some form before finals begin. Especially Wojo, he needs to play a couple and the coaching staff need to see if his achilles is gonna hold up.

Bomber has indicated that he'll likely come back through the VFL - when ready. Others will come straight back, but I doubt that any risks will be taken in what promises to be a high pressure game this week.

Very much like the Port game last season, as has been pointed out elsewhere.

GEELONG appear certain to regain star full-back Matthew Scarlett but is likely to have to wait and see how three other premiership players progress this week before making a call on whether they will take on North Melbourne on Sunday.

Scarlett was a late withdrawal for the Cats in their 39-point win over the Sydney Swans at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night, the three-time All-Australian missing due to tightness in his back.

“He’ll [Scarlett] be fine … he’ll definitely play,” Balme said.

Of more concern for Geelong is Paul Chapman (hamstring), Darren Milburn (groin) and David Wojcinski (Achilles).

The trio, along with Scarlett, travelled to Sydney last weekend to continue their rehabilitation from injury and while each is a genuine chance to return, none is considered a definite starter.

Chapman strained his right hamstring in Geelong’s round 17 win over Hawthorn and, despite having resumed running at good pace a fortnight ago, is no certainty to come into the Cats’ 22 after missing three matches.

“We’d expect him to be OK as well but we’ll see how he goes,” Balme said.

“That’s just hamstrings. You’ve got to get a right amount of work into them, so you’re not taking a risk.”

Balme said Geelong expected defenders Milburn and Wojcinski to be available for selection although it would depend “where they are in their programs”.

“Obviously the fact that Scarlo’s [only] missed one would mean that he’d be right but it’s just a matter of how they (the others) are within themselves and how much work they’ve done,” he said.

Wojcinski continues to battle a niggling achilles problem which has kept him sidelined since round 15. Milburn, meanwhile, is suffering groin soreness and last played in the round 18 win over Richmond.

Balme also said young forward Tom Hawkins had pulled up well after resuming from injury in the VFL at the weekend.

Hawkins, who had been sidelined with a foot injury, played about half the match and kicked a goal. He will play for Geelong’s VFL team again this weekend.

From AFL site.

Not particularly promising really. Dasher would be very handy this week, Chappy even moreso.

Yeah. Chappy always seems to tear North a new one when we play them. He's hard to collar and even when caught has the milking of free kicks due to head-high contact down to a fine art:thumbsu:

According to Channel Ten news Scarlett, Milburn and Chapman are in the side but no one has been named as out of the side.

It does not tell us much.

Are we gonna win no matter who's in, Rabbi? Is the blue-and-white hooped mohel known as Little Gaz gonna cut more than their foreskins off? Is Dean Laidley gonna be the only kid with his bottom lip quivvering and tears in his eyes at the Kardinia Park bar-mitzvah Rabbi?

Damn straight!:D

I must have missed it, where has bomber said that?

Pretty sure I saw it on the box/heard it on the radio. Either that or I read it on one of: Geelong Addy, AFL, Realfooty, etc... trolling for pussy news.

IIRC the point was that Woja's injury is 'difficult' and after so many weeks out they were thinking it unwise to expose him to AFL first up.
They may also want to keep the position open for the fringe players to contest next week - but that bit's only my guess.
