How long would the process take? Serious question
It takes as long as it takes, it's impossible to put time lines on these things. Most programs are 1,2 or 3 months however its impossible to know if any of these options work the first, second, fifth, tenth time or at all.
My uncle was in and out of these programs all his adult life from the time he was a teenager, sometimes he was clean and sober as long as 3 or 4 years at a time before one bad day triggered a relapse and the whole process started all over again. Unfortunately for him it all ended with one final relapse.

Depends on the rehab. Hopefully he makes connections & has peers and mentors he finds there when he gets out. I used to go to an AA meeting where a bunch of young people rocked up & shared their story. They were forced to go there as part of mandatory rehab, but they seemed to get a lot out of it .

Rehab is there to give you the tools and the connections, but you don't get out and be 'cured." There is no cure. It's a lifelong process .

You meet people who are in the same boat as you, and they become true friends. Not false hangers on. They can be a great support going forward .

Jamarra has always been a very impressionable young man. He will be a reflection of the people he spends his time with so I’m confident he will be better coming out of this retreat.

I’m still in the ‘highly doubtful that he makes it back to AFL’ camp but he is only 23. IF he sorts himself out and IF he wants it bad enough to put in the work there’s absolutely no reason why he couldn’t make it back and fulfill his potential.

There’s a bloke running around right now that went off the rails at the exact same age and he may very well be a dual Coleman medalist come the end of the season.

Never say never.
There are certainly a few players who have played AFL footy after significant detours (Andrew Krakouer at Collingwood comes to mind, Lachie Keeffe at GWS too) so I think if he started to get himself right now he’d be able to play AFL again as soon as next year.

I think the biggest risk for him is continually sliding into his recent lifestyle. It’s certainly possible though. He’s had years of preseasons behind him, is still probably quite fit and has played quite a lot of AFL level football.

Hogan is the current example. Likely a 2 time Coleman medallist after this year.

Absolutely no way of knowing this. Sometimes it's successful, other times achieves very little. All comes down to the individual.
Depending on how far they’ve gone off the rails. It takes 28 days to get one’s chakras all in a row at your typical health retreat.

Those years at Fremantle were close to it though.
It was definitely a waste of a few peak years for him, and he was always a top end talent. It’s bizarre that he become a consistent, leading goalkicker at both Melbourne and GWS but was on the fringe and thrown into defence at Freo.

There was off-field drama like breaking COVID hub rules and flipping a car on a suburban street, but I get the impression it was a fair way short of Jamarra’s dramas.

Freo, unfortunately, has seen plenty of players come in with big reputations only to flounder.

If he managed to get fit and return how welcoming do you think the players would be?
He would have to work to regain their trust. Attend training and other duties like they do. Play wherever and whenever the coaches require. Try his hardest onfield. Young blokes are forgiving, in time they would accept him back if he is sincerely making an effort.
