Wanna have a guess at how many disposals and scoring shots Taylor Walker had in his 13th game?

a bad game from a player who had dominated the SANFL as an 18 year old doesnt mean as much as a bad game from a guy whose reputation as a future star is built on nothing nothing more than 2 afl games.

Three, actually. Three 4 or more goal bags out of 10 games is a better start to a career than any other young key forward in recent memory. It's certainly more than Walker and much more than Tippett managed.

So you want to count his two seagull goals against the Crows as a basis for labelling him as a future star :o

He has kicked 1 more goal than Walker in 10 games, Walker started playing at 18 for the Crows which was about 18 months younger than Butcher when he debuted. At 18 Walker, when he played his first AFL game, he had already kicked 56 goals in about 16 games as a 17/18 year old for Norwood.

Your argument is very flimsy trying to compare resumes between the two as Walker's debut age, SANFL record and his AFL record when he was 18 months younger blows Butcher's out of the water.

Also if you look at Walker's stats he has improved every year while Butcher is markedly down on his stats from last year.

Rightio. So Tippett is better than Butcher and Matt Thomas is clearly better than Sam Kerridge and Brad Crouch combined. Gotcha.

Correct to an extent, unfortunately your example of Matt Thomas is a bit off considering the only thing Thomas has proven is that he's an average footballer.

Matt Thomas has the "runs on the board", has he? What exactly has he achieved at AFL level besides giving Poort Power supporters their jollies over what he did to Hentschel?

Matt Thomas has shown that he's a spud at AFL level, just like Tippett has :) (I'm sure you'll try to bring up the SC argument in this thread after I crushed it in another thread, because you're a typical Crow flog and that's what Crow flogs do when they get smashed in an argument, but I'm not going to bother smashing it again).

Thomas still did more in a close game when the game was on the line last week than Tippett has done in any of Adelaide's close games this year though.

If you can't see the value in a big guy who can take contested marks or bring the ball to ground, then can be switched into a mobile ruck role, then clearly your knowledge of the game is very ordinary at best. Tippett doesn't need massive bags of goals or huge stats, what he does need to do is compete and get the ball to the right spots. If he gets goals it's a bonus, but Walker's role is to be the key forward.

Tippett is a key component to a threatening forward line and he has been performing this role very well. Still learning his craft too, so he will get better, considering he didn't come from a football background.

So I know you're all eager to see the latest installment of the John Butcher Contested Mark Watch. Well the big power forward, dubbed The Future of the club has amassaed another amazing goose egg.

There are currently over 450 AFL players who have taken more contested marks than The Future.

I personally think he may be saving his 2012 cherry for the Showdown this weekend. :thumbsu:

They had a total of 4 marks in their forward 50, I reckon Henderson took more than their whole team

You're seriously judging a defender after that game? You and I could've taken Talia and Shaw's place in that game and it wouldn't have made a difference, the ball didn't go down there and on the rare occasion that it did it didn't go anywhere useful. Defender's dream.

Was it one of them who let Butch take his first contested mark for the year?

You are right on two counts, Butcher did take a contested mark on Talia and it was his first one of the year :D

And yes you can judge a defence positively that smashes their opponent. Westhoff has killed us previously and Talia toweled him up. And this wasn't just a one off, I can't recall Talia being beaten this year. Shaw has had one bad game and then he had a knee injury, and you jumped on him. Both are very promising defenders, suck it up.

Well that puts Butcher ahead of Tippett. After twelve games Butcher has an average of 1.0 CMs per game. After twelve games Spud Tippett had an average of 0.9 CMs per game.

In their first 12 games Butcher is better than the big Spud.

Considering how apparently you rate Tippett as a spud, surely Butcher needs to be tracking better than 1.0 to 0.9 against Tippett

It's all downhill from here though as far as stats comparisons go as Tippett's form improves from his first few games rather the retrograding improvement of Spud Butcher

I am waiting for Matt From Sydney to post in the "Butcher" thread in Port Board and suggest how great their spud forward is.

I read that thread. It's hilarious to see the same person who previously tried to claim that Salter was going to be the next big thing in football now on the Butcher bandwagon and assuring everyone that he'll be a gun forward of the future.
