Like I have posted elsewhere, I think the intention was always to re-draft Collins, otherwise the Arizona Trip would've made an expensive farewell gift...

Reimers & Tomic should get together & compare notes. They would seem to have a lot in common, particularly a liking for that river in Egypt.

Collins will be a lock. 3yr contract with 1 to go has made that decision for us but wise the option of freeing up a senior position by re-drafting him as a rookie. Same could have applied to AJ or Davies. All coming down to $$'s but obviously the talent scouts didn't care for an upgrade on Andy with the passing after #54, or again coming back to dollars & rookie positions/contract vs senior contract.
A competent backup FB would be good as P. McCarthy doesn't seem destined for that role & we lack coverage after Jamo, Hendo & Watto. O.

By paying out his last year as dead money. Player does not have to be senior listed. You'll find this starting to be common place. See Gavin Urqhuart from North last year. Frees up senior positions & if they're not taken by another then off to the rookie list to perform. If not, ciao, goodbye.

No payout, he'll remain a CFC listed player. He could be picked up by another club & we'd be liable for any shortfall on his contract. It's just list shuffling now without delisting him & paying out the final year with no return & TPP issues. This way he's a rookie & not occupying a senior berth which gives us options on other rookie upgrades as it appears we're going 38 + 6.
