Carlton's very own Adam Bentick is currently sitting 2nd for tackles in the whole AFL.

this guy is very underated and works his but off for the club.

Well said. Agree 100% :thumbsu: One of my favourite players for his work ethic, and the fact that he goes under the shadows of the other players in the team.

A lot of people on here don't like him for whatever reason, but i'm very glad we've got him, because we would be a lot worse without that hardness in our midfield.

He's what, 20? 21? And he's applying 11 tackles in a game, when teh average tackles of that game was 4?? Great effort from him:thumbsu:

Bentick is 21 turning 22 in a couple of weeks.

Only played 43 games so he still has a lot to learn.

He works so hard in the packs for us and doesn't get the credit he deserves.

I could not agree more :thumbsu: only problem is pagan will not give this kid a full game . Just look at herald sun each week he plays him 50 to 60 % of the game time . Now just imagine if that Knuckle head of a coach pagan plays him 90 to 100 % of game time . Bentick is pretty outstanding;)

Pagan doesn't give anyone game time:thumbsd:

Bentick would average 26 possies and 10 tackles if he had more game time

I once saw a game where Pagan only gave everyone 50% game time!

Seriously how can a thread praising a good young player for us turn to Pagan bashing.

not bashing him just upset that our young kids don't get a chance to prove themselves.

To tell you the truth i love pagan as a coach and you won't see me in any of the pagan bashing threads.

But back onto bentick... this kid will be in the middle with murphy, gibbs and walker in years to come

Because you lot know a lot more about coaching than pagan?
Instead of just bagging him why not post, why he shouldn't be replaced when he is. Do u actually watch to see whether he is drifting out of the contest or just buggered?

It's a lot easier just to talk crap and not back it up :)

Yes he and Carrazzo have both improved this year.

Bentick's tackling is incredibly important, and he is 7th (I think) for possessions/TOG in the AFL.

Adam is slow by foot and so you can't have him on the ground all the time because in the heat of games he could be exposed for a lack of leg speed. Also the hard work he does in close must take a lot out of him.

As tackles can be counted differently on footywire he's ranked number 1. This is a major acheivement considering he only gets his 50-70% TOG time. I think fitness is a contruibuting factor, something he and the club worked strongly on over the preseason. I'm sure fitness will also be a focus in the coming preseason also.

Congrats AB on a solid season so far.

If pagan is the supercoach everone thinks he is why were we 20 points up at half time againsted collingwood . Start of third quarter ackland and murph sitting on interchange bench . for collingwood to come back? if we get the first 2 goals we had collingwood by the throat. And if you think he is the supercoach why did most the board and players want to oust him . Enough of the excuses , we have a team that can win games its time to give player a go in th epositions they need to be to win games . WALKER (midfield) get it:eek:

He is so underrated that it's not even funny.

He is a gun, sure he's not the quickest bloke on the footy field, and sure he doesn't have the best disposal, but he tries his guts out all the time, and he is always at the bottom of packs. Pretty good at winning the clearances, and his tackling is great.

He will never get the praise or the attention that the likes of Murphy, Walker, Simpson will get, but he's just as important to our midfield as they are. Now all we need is another experienced hard body in the middle to help him out and we will be travelling OK.

I really wish people would reserve the use of the word 'gun' for truly excellent players.

And by the way 16th Premierships, most of the board wanted Denis out because most of the board know little about football.

You gotta love Bentick. Nothing spectacular about him, but he's the type of guy premierships are built around - not because he'll win Brownlow medals or Norm Smiths or any great accolades, but because he can go out there and play every game like it is his last, do a job and do the hard yards for the team.

I wish we had 14 more like him - then we'd have the solid base to build premierships around!

At the start of the year everyon would hav agrred this was a make or break year for Bentick and Carrazzo. Hopefully they continue to improve and become gun midfelders. The focus will now turn to Blackwell and Jackson over the next year to see if they can step up.

Adam Bentick is one of my favourite players to watch. He is a tough player and i like that in a player. He gets in there and goes relative unnoticed to other teams. He is a good at set shoots and usaully finishes well. Maybe a bit slow on occasions but he is a quaility player.

Your title for this thread is spot on. I should point out, though, that those were the stats before Round 9. AB's 11 tackles took him to 57, which is now 1 ahead of Kirk on 56. You are correct in stating that AB works his butt off. He plays a very physical role & hence generally is interchanged in the second half of each quarter. This is nothing to do with Pagan not giving him a fair go, but a reflection that AB's playing style takes a heavy toll on him & when he goes to the interchange bench he is physically spent.

Anyone that doubts AB's value to our team are totally missing the point. He is fulfilling a role that allows our midfielders with flair to do their stuff & keeps them away from the heavy bullocking work.

Sorry about that. Got it off the afl site.

AB is so important to carlton. He is our best in an under player at the moment and will give us first use of the ball. As you said he gives our other midfielders the oppurtunity to use their skills and not have to do the heavy body work.

He will physicly develop more and gain more fitness thus he will be able to spend more time on the ground:thumbsu:

When he gets an experienced body, and some more inside support, we will then see how good he is in the clinches.

He is already great at extracting the ball, needs a little more strength, but doesn't lack for the old Guts and Determination.

Interesting that you could very well be talking about the guy who's leading the tackling at the moment with these comments. kirky was very underrated in his first few years of footy (to the point where eade was going to sack him before roos came along) but has well and truly answered any critics he had through going hard all the time and giving his all.

Can't believe how many people knock bentick because of his deficiences without mentioning the above attributes. Keep it up AB, love your work.

hes excellent, i love him. with him and blacky in the inside mid role we can give bentick a rest on bench or up forward. but bentick is excellent once he gets a decent body and fitness next year we will be able to last longer. one of my favourtites
