Did you rate Doc's coaching last year?

I found it okay but I think he had them playing far too slow when Rondo was with the younger guys. I put more blame on Ainge for some of his off-season decisions.

He was coaching a veteran team with a lot of injury problems. he just didn't handle life with out that pass first kind of guard very well. Not enough time to work with players to adjust to a different type of guard set up.

Crap offence which is no surprise but Kyrie hasn't exactly learned how to pass like a guard should when drawing attention yet.
Brown's shit coaching directly correlates with Kyrie's stagnation in terms of facilitating.

Can't be arsed starting a thread on this, but if you were a prospective coach/GM, which team would you rather get your hands on - Cleveland or Washington?
Washington... maybe. Hard call tbh
It depends on gortat staying and where the draft pick they sacrificed for him ends up being. What do they do with ariza? Going forward they have porter to slot on at the 3 (hopefully), so if they can flip ariza for another piece, or alternatively they can resign him. They have a bit of cap room, but will likely have to use a chunk of that to keep gortat. Blatche comes off amnesty the following season which would give them some room, not like Washington is a huge free agent destination. They've committed a chunk of coin to Webster, so far so good. Plus Nene needs to play something north of 60 games a season as they are a far better squad with him playing.

Now Cleveland.... They should flip sideshow, and need to find a competent 3. Waiters will be a decent player, likewise Thompson, but they aren't going to be superstars by any measure. But... And it's a big but, they aren't going anywhere while Miles, Gee and the like are playing major minutes. Bennett's a write off this season, get a pre season into him and we will have a better idea what he will be able to contribute, but going forward how do he and TT play together? Bynums a key, how much can he offer going forward. Lebrons a pipe dream, and they aren't getting help from free agency, maybe they should bring out the tank one more time and ask for a top 6 pick.

You've touched on some good points there - I agree, it's a tough call.

In terms of young draftees it's not easy figuring out which has fared better with their smorgasbord of first round picks.

Wall/Beal/Porter/Vesely(ugh)/Singleton/Booker/Seraphin

vs

Irving/Waiters/Thompson/Bennett/Zeller/Karasev

I'd say Washington have the more consistent and bankable vets at present - Nene/Gortat/Ariza/Webster vs Bynum/Varejao/Jack/Clark. For this season, I can see the Wiz in the playoffs so long as they remain relatively healthy, as they at least seem to have some chemistry... can't say the same about the Cavs.

Both teams will have room to move via FA, but Washington has decisions to make with its vets, while Cleveland will have to make a choice with extending its young uns. Neither is a FA hotspot, so hoarding cap room would be a gamble.

One advantage for Cleveland is assets in the bank. They're owed first round picks via the Kings, Griz & Heat, all semi-protected, and they can probably afford to tank this season for another top-8 pick. Washington don't have the luxury of taking the straight out tanking route, as they've kinda sold their fans on making the playoffs this year. If they do decide to tank to save their pick, they'll have to time that decision well in order to out-tank the rest of the East.

Ah yes I overlooked the I owed picks, nice spot.

I'd say immediately, Washington. In 3 or 4 years, then maybe Cleveland

Of course it's one thing to have picks, it's entirely another to use them competently ;)

Looking at the Cavs' roster Noel would have made a lot of sense if for no other reason than Kyrie and Waiters are pretty leaky as a duo.

On the other hand a Noel/Thompson frontcourt screams 'Mead', so they had a tough decision to make.

I'd go Washington.

The Wall/Beal combo is going to be great IMO, Beal is going to be a star in a couple of years.

Porter will be a great fit next to them as well, plus Gortat I really think the Wizards are building well on the court but they need to get a competent coach and Wall needs to get a decent jumper.

Not sure what's more depressing, the Celtics being ordinary and still being in the top 8, the East as a whole or the state of my teams.

Help me those who have experienced the pain of losing!
