I'm getting the feeling a lot of people want one of these. So, without further ado, this is the thread for all your rants, raves, curses, hexes, adorations (if any) on "Mr Matchwinner" [].

Personally, his inability to string a convincing sentence together sickens me. I really hope that if a reporter requests an interview regarding something that we are accused of doing deliberately, that he just says no. His bumbled attempt did us no justice what so ever.

Cant really see why he's copping so much abuse for batting to a situation, not to everyone elses expectations. At 2/5, if he came out blazing and got out for a dozen or so, the howls for his head saying 'why didn't he just bunt it around with Martin for awhile to stabalise the innings instead of puting so much more pressure on an inexperienced middle order' would have been even more deafening than the critisisms he getting now.

And spare me the 'but Michael Clarke came in and got his runs in less time' bit, when he'd came in, there wasn't as much movement on the ball and the pitch was probably as good as any time in the day. Both Bevan and Martyn were getting beaten consistently by Caddick and Anderson by the movement of the new ball early on, I still reckon they played to the situation of the match. Give some credit to the Pommy bowlers in this case, they bowled well early. And no, I didn't see that interview you are talking about, Badger.

well put pride, there seems to be a lot of people on bigfooty that know little about cricket or are just massive **** stirrers.

Bevan has shown time and again a complete inability to rotate the strike with the field up.

Pretty much the same with Martyn.

Get those two together and the result is always the same, 3 runs an over or thereabouts, until one of the gets out.

Anyone who thinks he STILL is one of the best one day players in the world knows nothing about cricket, he is dangerous on the odd occasion Australia chases under 200 and crumbles. Any other time he is relatively useless.

He has batted this series with a just over 50 runs per 100 balls strike rate, no other Australian is under 70. And he has the lowest highest score of the top order by a massive 48 runs, showing a complete inability to go on with it.

A single 50 to his name, a strike rate under 60, terrible fielding and no bowling does not make one of the best one day players in the world, however you look at it.

If you just want someone to tie up an end, regardless of the situation the team is currently in, you could probably find plenty of players.

Bevan has been a liability for a couple of years now, especially in tandem with 'I didn't get my last 6 shots through point, but I'll try another one' Martyn.

I don't deny that he has been a very useful player for us - but has he just started to wane slightly in the last few months?

There has always been a question mark over him, he could never cut it at Test level, and for mine hasn't really seemed to be able to overcome his technical flaws in that respect (although that can be said about many successful batsmen over the years).

I think maybe he is suffering because someone stuck the "best ever" label on him, and, not being in the test side it's he has really got to do it in the hit and giggles.

Agree largely with P76 (you couldn't possibly be a fan of Leyland's weapon of self destruction could you?).

I think Bevan is slowly starting to struggle - but I wouldn't dream of ommitting him from the One Day side just yet. Maybe in another year when some further rotation is required it might be worth having a look at him. Some flaws he unquestionably has, but a one day team needs different batsmen through the order and I think he plays his particular role better than nearly anyone else.

Forget the circumstances of the last game - if you watch replays of Bevan batting 4 or 5 years ago and watch him now, he is not the same player - I believe his confidence is down. I rememeber an innings in South Africa and also the game in Malysia [I think!], Asia v World - superb knocks under pressure when chasing

I agree that he seems to have trouble rotating the strike in a tight situation - given the fact that he is supposedly very quick between the wickets.

I'df like to see his average for the past four years in ODI's.

Agree 100% with you PrideofSA.

Anyone who can sustain an average over 50 in one-day internationals and has a proven record of guiding his team to victory in pressure situations as Michael Bevan has for Australia deserves to be recognised as one of the best one-day batsmen in the world.

After showing this thread to Bevo last night, he said that he was going to laugh this off. So that's what I'm doing.

But he gets the job done time and time again, the other night it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if boof came in. My guess is he would have got out going the tonk. That would have put enourmous pressure on debutant Clarke.

Bevan is an automatic inclusion in the side for me still. Plus that straight drive over Harpers head for 4 on the last ball to win @ the SCG will stay with me for ever.

Yes Suzi I would as it's the result which matters most. After all it's a sport , not an N*SYNC concert to amuse the kiddies.

Bevo may be boring but he is VERY effective and reliable. I'll say it again, automatic inclusion.

Thats the key issue here.They do a job that has to be done for the team.These couch potatoe spectators who want every player to swing the bat wildly at each delivery have probably never played a game of cricket in there life.We would be completely and utterly screwed on a number of occasions if it wasnt for Bevo and Martyn.Beven always knows what needs to be done to win a match and plays accordingly.If he needs to score at a run a ball he will work up to that by the end of his innings.Its a shame that one day cricket has become so formulated that it is getting to the stage where you need guys like Beven and Martyn to consolidate through the middle overs where singles and twos are the main means of scoring.

Incorrect, it is one-day cricket, which IS basically an N*SYNC concert to amuse the kiddies.

As for pressure, Bevan puts more pressure on his teammates than players like Ponting etc do getting out.

How many times do you see hiw partners getting out having to slog because the run rate is so pathetic?

Lehmann running himself out in Brisbane a recent example. If it wasn't for Hogg coming in and hitting a quickfire 15 that game would probably have been lost.

As for in Adelaide, there was more pressure on Clarke needing to score reasonably quickly with Watson than there would have been if Bevan hadnt wasted 15 overs to score 30.

There is no excuse for batting slower than an 80's test match, even if it is your job to be steady.

I think that the problem Bevan has, perhaps more so than in the past, is his one paced batting. Ideally what you need at 4 and 5 is a batsman who can just keep it ticking over or go the tonk if needs be. Bevo used to be a bit better at (semi) tonking, but he seems to find that harder the last little while.

However, having said that, I don't think there is anyone around at the moment who even looks like taking his place in the side.

Oh and Suzi, if you know the man so well, you really shouldn't call him Beven. He hates it when you get his name wrong. As he said when I e-mailed him from Steve Waugh's house last night blah blah blah...
