In a weird way, glad I can say I was at that grand final to see Meatloaf butcher his own song. Once in a lifetime stuff.

Neil Young is a unique artist VC. He divides opinion among my mates-can see where you sit :D;)
I'm definitely a fan. Maybe you like his originals more-Heart of Gold, Old Man etc..?
Maybe. I'll have a look.
I just didn't like his butchering of a day in the life.

Yes, I see what you did there.

I think.

Back onto Beatles' covers. Any fans of The Breeders?

I was gonna post that yesterday, but Neil got in the way. A truly great cover.

What Albini does with space and drums in his production - amazing stuff.

Also loved The Breeders cover of The Who's So Sad About Us.

Nope.
Daughter is home crook. Doesn't like it either :)

I don't mind the instrumental side. The vocals are horrible.

It's a beautiful version. Think Neil Young also covered I Saw Her Standing There, but can't find it anywhere??

One of my favourite Neil Young covers, and an all time favourite song of mine is All Along The Watchtower (best you cover your ears or skip it VC ;));

Thanks Catgal- I haven't seen him play that. Very good!
And Big Tom- I'm definitely a fan :)
I travelled with a busload of Uni students from Melb to Alice - only taking 4 audio cassettes with me. Three of the four were Neil Young ;) I can't quite remember but the 4th might've been Tom Waits.
By the end of the road trip, everyone knew ALL the words of ALL the songs :)

The only bucthering found on that cover is the treatment Neil dishes out to poor Old Black in the last five minutes.

But like the old trooper she is, Old Black could take the punishment, re-string her life back together, and play on.

Here she is, just a few weeks ago, opening a gig in Dresden with a 25 minute version of Down By the River, as the Gods tend to do...

Have to go, so can't watch this vid right now.
Is Old Black the chick at the back helping butcher? Ever who that was, was horrible.

Were you traveling to a concert teriyaki?
Used to enjoy a good old road trip to catch a favourite band or festival

Unfortunately not, Tom. I wish it was!! We were on a geology field trip- mapping at a place called Jay Creek, out of Alice.
My most enduring memory of the trip would probably be- apart from the music ;) - the spinifex. Oh- and camping out in -5 deg overnight temperatures unprepared ;) It was bloody freezing!!! (Below freezing, actually ;))

Can't think of many right now, but here's some interesting Beatles cover versions for you to enjoy;

Nick Cave-Here Comes the Sun
Echo and the Bunnymen-Ticket to Ride
Black Angels-Norwegian Wood
Ella Fitzgerald-Can't Buy Me Love (Ella does lots actually, but this is your favourite track of theirs :thumbsu:)
Must thank you for these song ideas catgal-was never much into listening to older artists, but I just love Ella Fitzgerald. Was listening last night for ages, love her voice.

Does your daughter have the flu VC? It's spreading like crazy up here.

Out of interest, do you prefer the Beatles or Rolling Stones?
2 guys I work with were having a heated argument today over why one was better than the other.

Not sure what she has.
She was ok all day.

I actually don't like the rolling stones.
Don't hate them. Just never listen to them.

You can love both, thanks to The Residents. :D

Oh. I've got to stop listening to stuff James posts.

My daughter loves Pink :(

Don't like Floyd either!

that is 2 strikes (one on behalf of your daughter) for you as well!!!
Being a little harsh on a young girl.

As for Pink Floyd - I'm actually with VC on that one. I've never been able to get into them.

Makes for a fun discussion, "artists lots of people like but you don't".

The one that springs instantly to mind for me is Tom Waits. Lots of people I know rate his work but I just can't listen to him.
