That wasn't you complaining about people calling you a troll?

There you go, some reasoning! Personally, I disagree, he has decent burst pace, and yes, he's a good tackler, but he also has terrible endurance, shits himself under pressure, and has poor disposal. We certainly miss Johncock, but Brown is far more likely to be the answer to that problem than Petrenko is IMO.

Not the only one to shit himself under pressure on our team this season. See...Jaensch. Martin. etc...

D
Roo and Fagan have a massive sales job to convince a new coach that the slate is wiped clean and this will become a new AFC.
damn straight and there's still the question of moving on the chairman.

What ever happened to Brian Royal?
Like Ken Hinkley, was highly regarded and always seen as the runner-up in many coaching appointments or touted as the next best coach in waiting!

You ask Thompson. Ask Worsfold. Goodwin. Voss? If our premiership window is open why wouldn't they come?

Thompson - Sando's best mate. No brianer.
Worsfold - Has a cushy job as head of the coaches association - no stress and similar coin
Goodwin - Was already signed sealed delivered at Melbourne (just needed Essendon's season to finish)
Voss - No idea what he's doing, or if he's even looking at head coaching roles.

If they were going to move on Bassett he would be getting the Goodwin role (melbourne)
Come in as an assistant to an experienced hand, and take over in a couple of years time.
I just don't see succession plans working.

You'll either have the 'older' coach doing really well, in which case you're taking a huge risk by forcing a change (See Collingwood).
or
You'll have the older coach doing crap, and you're essentially promoting an assistant from a poorly performing coaching team (anyone want to see Bickley as coach?)

But if this signing is as great as is being touted, then the concerns on his ability to coach should be very very minimal.
Same goes for Bass who has already been a successful head coach.

Where is the information about those charges? As far as I am aware he and Essendon were charged with this only

"Contrary to Rule 1.6 of the Rules, in the period from about August 2011 to about July 2012, you engaged in conduct unbecoming or likely to prejudice the interests or reputation of the Australian Football League or to bring the game of football into disrepute."

That was the only charge - about bringing the game into disrepute in respect to governance at the club during that period. There are still other possible pending charges as part of the ASADA investigation. There are team penalties that may come into effect if more that two players are found guilty of doping violations. As part of these team penalties there are also possible infraction notices that can now be granted to officials as well.

REPORTER: James, given that you have accepted this penalty, is that you conceding that you did break the rules?

JAMES HIRD: Not at all. No, not at all.

REPORTER: Why is that?

JAMES HIRD: Well I didn't break the rules that I was charged with; those charges have been dropped and we've agreed to move on.

REPORTER II: So James what are you guilty of?

JAMES HIRD: What am I guilty of? That's a… look, there's a level of responsibility you have as a senior coach; there're things that went on in our football club that shouldn't have happened last year and as senior coach I have to take some responsibility for what happened and not doing more to stop it.

We already knew Hird was a w***er, without that being posted again.

Sort of contradicts you stating he should be looked at there!

Again, what alternative do you propose. You have three options.

We've decided that Sanderson will not win a premiership... we need a new coach.
1) Try going behind his back and looking for a new coach. When you've found one sack him and announce the new one at the same time. Risk leaks that you're looking while he's still a contracted coach and an absolute shit storm if it gets out.
2) Sack him and start your search.
3) Keep him. We know he's shit, but whatever, that's how we roll.

option 3, option 3.

Sorry folks for the delay in cleaning up the stripper mess.

A few posts on a slight derailment we can all cope with. When it gets over a page or so - can I ask that someone please report it. Mods being the generally responsible people we are often have highly busy jobs during the day - but we do check for reports (and naked people) to look at reasonably regularly. If reported we know to jump in and do a 5 minute burst of clean up.

Otherwise it waits for hours and annoys more than it ideally should.

The problem the club made was re-signing Sanderson at the start of the year and what makes this decision even more strange is that Trigg was on radio only about a month ago talking about how great Sanderson is a coach. Yet 6 months after we sign him for a further 2 years we turn around and sack him. This is the main reason why this whole situation has turned into a farce because the whole situation doesn't really make any sense.

So now we're looking at taking a 1.2 million dollar gamble on another rookie coach and just hoping for the best. If Sanderson didn't get an extension then it wouldn't matter, but the whole situation is coming across as a circus and I guess we were all hoping the the club actually had a plan that would actually make some sense.

This whole situation is going to turn us into a laughing stock especially if the next coach fails.

Yeah coz this thread was really hitting some great heights before that conversation. 211 pages of people having no idea who the new coach is.

That is true, and I was pissed when we gave him the extension. We can't un-give it though, and have to work with the situation as it is. Trigg is gone now and we've started cleaning up his mess.

It's in public at the footy mate. A family event. Clearly disgusting.

Fair call, but you know what they say about opinions :thumbsu:

I have a feeling we will all be blindsided by the coaching appointment/s. (media included)

No creadible leaks have been coming out of any camp, the media is playing pin the tail on the donkey..much the same as has been going on here for 200+ pages.

Should have thrown everything at Bomber Thompson to sign up this year as senior assistant. So...if Sando screws up mid season, he would've gotten the flick and Thompson would be the head coach of the AFC.
Instead we're left with Bolton, Dew or Bassett. Hardly the coaches we were all throwing up 12 days ago.
