Nope, there's definitely a comparison there. Both kick goals through a combination of set shots, freakish snaps/bananas, and smashing it home 50+ out on the weaker foot. Their bodies are also similar; both have a lot of strength in the hips and the same sloped shoulders, which help them bulldoze through a lot of tackles.

Of course we all know why you're deluding yourself into believing otherwise.

How old are you ?

I doubt you saw Ablett Snr.

I enjoy how in the Tom Boyd vs Jesse Hogan thread that you take Jonathon Brown as Gospel over player comparisons with Jesse Hogan and former AFL CHF's. Quote " Theres a reason why experts such as Carey and Brown drool over Hogan (and correctly so).

Yet your so determined to suggest that Stringer plays nothing like Gary Ablett Snr even though in this video Jonathon Brown makes a comparison between Stringer and Ablett snr (whether rightly or wrongly thats up for debate). Starts at 0.01

I clearly enjoy how you pick and choose expert opinion for your own benefit.

At least try and balance your arguments to some degree. Fair enough if you have a bias towards your own club/players on BF thats perfectly understandable but your lack of objectivity makes you look like a fool as it has once again in this instance.

Because your board had a stringer to Macrae comparison thread
I'm not making this about melbourne

I like Hogan.

Has a bit of a go, that kid.

Might make a good midfielder one day, too.
Just like the String.

I saw Ablett's career. There's zero comparison. If there was I'd say there was, I couldn't care less, but there's not.

Brown was too young know and he's clearly wrong. But he's not too young to see Hogan.

On the Gary Ablett Snr thing, I've heard that comparison a lot. Didn't notice it until it was brougt up on I think was On The Couch (EDIT: refer to dogsman16 above). Looking at it now, he is probably the closest to Ablett Snr in style that I can think of. Has anyone else been compared to Ablett Snr recently?

Pleasee dont give BT an even more inflated ego. Let Stringers teammates nickname him
I can't stand that nickname. Mostly because BT was trying so hard to make it stick. I really hope it doesn't catch on.

Hahahahahahaha. Good to see that the expert you take as gospel over his Hogan comments yet not his Stringer comments. Very good way to get your argument across .

Coincidentally you agree with someones argument because it suits your point of view yet when it doesn't then they are wrong. Your the height of stupidity!!

I agree with what makes sense. I also appreciate what he's likely to know.

Do you know how old Brown was when Ablett was at his peak ?

Come on. Be brave enough to answer.

Pity you strongly lack in common sense. Sure he would have been around 14 years old when Ablett retired but hey there is a thing called the internet and video tapes that can any young person can watch on Ablett and how he played. We do live in the 21st century. Instead of being on BF posting mindless dribble (you were probably the poster that said that Hogan would be twice the player Stringer is lol), why don't you actively seek those out to re-jig your memory and better yet actually watch Stringer play. There is no question that he has certain traits, playing style, skills that Gary Ablett Snr had. Will he have the output that Ablett had over his career?? Well you would be a madman to suggest that he would. We hope he has half the output Ablett has. No doubt he has star potential though (in most peoples opinion he would already would be with 47 goals/19 games) to his name.

For your sake and more importantly the other Melbourne posters who have far more a clue on football than you (which would have to be all of them) stop posting mindless dribble that is tarnishing your fans.

I saw Ablett Snr and I don't see any style that equates with Stringer.

But that's not a dig at Stringer. I've said ad nauseum that I rate him. I just don't see the comparison. I don't see the comparison with any other player. Ablett Snr reminds me of nobody.

But if you do, that's all that matters. Why be concerned by the opinion of others ?

Clearly I am not concern by yours as without question you use expert opinion to pump up Hogan/your own players and fair enough. Hogan deserves every bit of the plaudits he has. No question he is an absolute gun, an opinion I have made well known on BF. But to use expert opinion to suit your argument then suggest they are completely wrong when it comes to a WB player well, its doesn't reflect well upon you.

To suggest that I should invalidate Brown's opinion on Hogan, because I don't share his (childhood) opinion on Ablett Snr's style is maniacal.

But it explains much of your offerings.

Once again you highlight your own ignorance. You don't use Brown opinion in this instance not because you disagree with him but because it doesn't suit your argument. Sad it has to come to that for you.

OK. So you're suggesting that one should always be wedded to the opinions of those you generally admire ?

EDIT: Btw, was his comparison to Ablett more a passing aside ?
