You pretty much did work the same amount of hours then, manager was being unreasonable

Yup. And then seems to have held a grudge because her decision frustrated me. Shock horror I'm frustrated at essentially being made to work 2 extra hours.

Thought vics got an extra holiday compared to nsw?

Now that's a horse of a different breed. I know we have GF Eve now, and I am aware that you guys don't have as many holidays as us.

I think if I recall correctly, we're two days better off?

Also, sorry to hear about that bad review. Hopefully you'll be moving on to better things once you finish your CA.

jd2010 new girl at work today. I've found someone who'd be shorter than Cruyffy. She'd be 5ft and not an inch taller.

Might head down to the GC next year to see the games

Asking my direct manager for a performance/pay review tomorrow after the overall brand manager gave me that half baked non-financial promotion last week.

Outcome of it will likely determine if we stay in Auckland another 6 months or head back to Melbourne. We need our own place and on a like for like basis Auckland is about $200 p/week more expensive to rent. So I'll only consider it if it's a pay rise that makes up for how expensive it is here.

The cost of living isn't the basis of why I'm asking mind you. More that I've taken on a whole lot more than I signed up for

The only point I will concede is I should have mentioned the previous week that I specifically was keen to go to the indoor game, but as I'd played it every Monday for the previous 5 weeks - and mentioned it at work on each occasion - I thought she'd be aware that was part of my routine. The fact she blocked me from going when it was a game at 9pm against our mates' team and we only had 5 players available was what pissed me off so much. I'm not asking to leave at 5 while everyone stays back til 10, I'm asking to leave at 8 having not taken lunch or dinner (so automatically worked an extra two hours there).
Nobody should be working until 10 unless they're a CEO.

work life balance is not close to a consideration at big 4 unless you are an exceptional AD or above.

This is scarily true. The politics involved also gets to ridiculous levels in those firms. Thankfully it's not as bad for me now but my time at Goldmans was like nothing else before or since.

Petty arguments, ass kissing, bickering, competitiveness etc was all just part of a day's work. I remember once asking my boss how he puts up with all this shit everyday. Pretty simple answer, he said "my $2.5m salary buys me a lot of cocaine".

Nah it's becoming more important now, most managers are switched on.

What was his role?

That was before bonus too. But a pretty standard wage for people on that level at the bank. The role is hard to define as such, it was the Director of our area of the Markets division.

Accountable for literally anything that haopens. Pretty crazy job, it was rare to see him not at work. A standard day for me back then was about 7am until around midnight give or take. He was always there before and after. Would never do that again, that's for sure.

guess it still depends what team you are in.

The guys in TAS cop it. You'd be out the door by 8 most nights yeah?

Nah I'm ok, 5.30-6 most of the time.
