I ended up turning down that job offer - something just didn't feel quite right about it to me.

Bit annoying about the money but I swore I'd never take a job purely for the salary. Back to slaving away for me haha.

Good for you mate. It's not all about the money, job satisfaction, or by the sound of it dissatisfaction in this case is equally important probably more so.

What do you do for work again? Finance related innit?

And what was the NY role?

Still in banking. At a big 4. Cruisy role leading a team full of people with ambition like I had 10+ years ago.

They need very little managing and I can delegate heaps to them as I 'work from home' at least 2-3 days a week. It's a nice gig with a young family.

The NYC job was with Goldman Sachs. Massive investment bank. Long story how I got it and what I did which might bore you. But think Wolf of Wall Street if you've seen it (minus the at times over the top craziness).

Mostly the set up around who I'd be reporting to etc.

It may have been perfectly fine but I wasn't thrilled with the 'support' network as it were. I guess that's part of the small company thing but I would have liked some more clear definition in some of the aspects of the role.

EDIT: Ah fair enough.

Yeah its the tough part of my job that you literally sometimes are doing everything. But i'm looking to use that as a bit of leverage

She's a massive Spurs fan.

I was a couple of rows behind her and Jessie J at a game at WHL a few years ago

Jessie turned up to a past players luncheon wearing a red dress :$

2004/5. Well before FaceTime haha. Was never a long term plan, just did it for the New York experience and earn as much as I could for 12 months.

Much easier to do when not married, no kids etc. Now it's the opposite. Usually out the door around 4ish, getting to work around 9.30 and with plenty of table tennis in between.
nah i mean did you have to stay in the office until your bosses left just cos everyone would and nobody wanta to be the one who leaves 'early'.

Not that strange. Essentially saying once you earn enough to live comfortably and afford a few luxuries in life then you should be feeling fine about things. Would obscene amounts of wealth therefore make you obscenely happy? Unlikely.

I understand that, but 80k is not a lot, especially if talking a house hold income.

I found that much more prevalent in the work cultures of some countries in Asia I worked in. Had a few stints with Merrill in Hong Kong, India, China and Thailand etc and very much found this throughout. Staying at work for the sake of it.

But different though in my experience at GS. Was staying in a tiny apartment in Chelsea with not much else to do there really.

The office had five star facilities as you could imagine, so was easier to shower there etc. And it was an incentives based job, so there was lots of upside for doing the hours. Pre GFC remember. Now it is much different.

Welchy got bant? For what? Wait there are a million reasons but which one finally sunk him?

He seemed angsty this morning towards Jatz and Chef so I figure he said something.
