Apparently the reason the PH wasn't on the Friday was because Victoria already had the GF Parade PH (still the most ridiculous PH ever).

Thankfully my boss is allowing us to work the Thursday and take the Friday off instead.

Economic impact of a ph is minimal and their are benefits to so many mentally.

We need all the public holidays we can get, this one for the Queen included

I dunno, I didn't really look at flights. Why would I? A 9 hour drive isn't much, and means I can leave and arrive when I want, not worry about flight delays/cancellations, and then have a car to drive around Melbourne as needed.

Got mates driving up to the SCG this weekend. Flights more than doubled mid match when it was looking like a Swans victory week 1. Same will happen in reverse on Saturday if they’re winning.

Even if it took you 5 hours (which is very uncommon), it's still 4 hours quicker.

There's a reason it's more expensive to do it that way.

When you factor in travel to the airport (an hour each way) the difference is pretty marginal for the increased cost. When I was leaving Melbourne last time I'd had to check out of my accomodation by 10 and my flight which was meant to be at 2 was rescheduled for 5, and it was then late taking off (think we ended up leaving close to 6). If I'd been driving home I would have been home at roughly the same time. An extreme example, but with the added cost for GF weekend it's a no brainer.

Whilst it would be a break in tradition, she would have been within her rights to have ruled within any of her dominions had she wanted to.

We are constitutional monarchy. Our reigning monarch has passed away. On the flip side, I'd love for you to provide me an example of any monarchy in modern history anywhere in the world that hasn't observed a formal day of mourning for the death of a sitting monarch? Especially for one as historically as significant and long standing as Elizabeth II?


On another note, a fun fact now is, Charles III becomes the first King or Queen of Australia to have been educated in Australia. He also becomes the first British monarch to have attended a educational intuition for any period of time outside of the United Kingdom.

As such Geelong Grammar becomes the first educational institution outside of the United Kingdom to count a British Monarch in their alumni.

The Government probably think it's appropriate that anyone in the country should have the ability to watch it, if they desire to, and shouldn't be restricted by work commitments.
