Matty…mate

Told my English boss at work today about this. He pissed himself. Even at the Henry the 8th reference because he's not even close to the top of length of reigns. Only well known for being a dick. Much like Matty.

Ask anyone in the street who King Alfred is and no one would know. First King of the Anglo-Saxons, considered to be the start of the English monarchy.

Yeah, and King Arthur was such a well known person. 😂

Well, more people would know now, than what would have 10 years ago.

Last Kingdom is one of Netflix's most popular shows and Alfred the Great is a key character in a fair portion of it.

Athelstan is probably a better example as he's often considered Englands greatest monarch.

Is it? I've never heard of it.

It's pretty big haha.

Really? Is it new? Honestly never heard of it.

When I think of big shows on Netflix I think of House of Cards, Sex Education, Cobra Kai, Bridgerton, Squid Game (and yes at this point I'm just scrolling through the "Only on Netflix" category). I'm four pages through it and that show hasn't come up lol.

Yep haha.

It really does fall in the list of shows you're referring to. It's kind of the equivalent of Vikings.

Might be to do with your preferences, comes up in that list for me pretty early on.

Well I know Vikings, never heard of this one.

So how do Netflix shows get renewed or cancelled? Network TV has ”ratings” and streaming services like Netflix has “Hours Watched.” How many hours does a Netflix show need to be watched over a set period of time before it gets renewed? Lol.

I mean... Last Kingdom doesn't even show up here.

It ran for 5 seasons at $10m USD per episode. Fair to say it was pretty commercial successful.

Netflix bought it from the BBC after season 2 as one of its largest existing show purchases at the time.

They are releasing a sequel as one of their biggest feature films in their development stream at the moment.

Sure. It's just clearly not one of their biggest shows.

I mean, it is.

It's not really represented on most streaming data considering it was on the BBC for half of it's show run.

When the last season dropped it was the most watched show on all streaming services in its opening few weeks.

At 1.4 billion minutes of streaming in its first week of release it compares pretty favorably to shows like The Witcher around the 2 billion mark in its first week, which was also the largest tv show on streaming services in its release weeks.

Anything that clocks over 60 million hours of streaming in a single week is a massive global show.
