I know the gov was pushing EVs specifically and offering novated leases so hadn't really checked for hybrid but seems like I might be able to get one? My wife is a bit hesitant to go full EV haha likes the safety net of a tank of petrol.
I had a bit of range anxiety before I got my EV but it disappeared pretty quickly. Unless you’re driving hundreds of kilometres every day it shouldn’t be an issue.

My Model Y has about 400km of range and I charge it twice a week tops. Costs me about $50 a month depending on how much of our Solar I can use.

Had mine for 2.5 years and have never once had any range anxiety.

I want to get an EV here in Ireland, I drive about 250km a week, would only need a charge once a week but we have a small 1 car drive way (houses here are packed in tight, even this one from 30 years ago) so that's my main issue with EV anxiety and charging it - moving one car onto the street for another.

In Ireland they dont really do novated leases, but you can get PCP which is similar - where you can buy the car at the end or return it, but requires a payment as well as a monthly I think

Yeah that's my thought too but will see how we go. Think we're looking at the Rav 4 hybrid to start with.

I never wanted an SUV but we bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee off my Dad recently and it's just insane how much more convenient it is with the kids and dogs.
I find them less convenient. They're too high, chug fuel and actually have less space in the back unless you buy a 7 seater equivalent

I guess it depends what your comparing them to.

I sold my 3 series BMW and our other car is a BMW X1. Both much smaller than the Jeep.

If it's a hybrid/EV how will it chug fuel? ;)

That's the big thing for us, multiple dogs, probably multiple kids before much longer, we need the bigger car.

Suggest you give it a decent test drive or even hire one for a couple of days.

I was given a Yaris SUV hybrid while my car was off the road and I hated it. It had continuously variable transmission. There's no feel as to whether you are at the speed limit or 10 above. Touch the brake and it's like an emergency stop. I think it's due to the battery charging system. The visibility around the car from the driver's seat was poor. On the plus side, it used very little fuel, so it depends on how many kms you do whether it's worth the extra cost.

Yeah we're making a short list to go test drive a few.

I was super keen on a RAV4 Hybrid. Only reason I went with the EV was because the wait for a RAV4 at the time was 18 months vs 6 weeks for a Model Y

Lots of my coworkers have RAV4s and they all love them. Toyota hybrids are by far and away the best on the market.

Yeah that's what had us looking at Toyota. On a novated lease it's pretty affordable, I just need to see if I can get one through my company.

I have a massive problem with those cars

Not if you keep it charged..
Depends on how big the battery is. Most only last for a short short journey. Every Wednesday I drive 230km so it wouldn't help me

For reference we have a Skoda Octavia from last year as our main car, but second hand and new cars are ridiculously expensive here. It cost us 60k aud equivalent for a middle model.

I would think 230km a day is not the norm.

Over in the UK now.

Have an BMW I4 sport for 4 weeks.

I have noticed it sucks the juice real quick on motorways during road trips if you sit on 75-80mph.

Would also be uneconomical if charging at home wasn't an option.

I did a supercharger at Rugby services. 89p / kWh - rip off.

Otherwise around round it's great and recharges quickly with high regen charging.

It's not 230km a day, just once a week as I have to drive to the middle of a country to babysit a contractor. The rest of the week I'm in the office or at home so I drive maybe 20km.

Yes so my point is judging a cars capacity on an abnormal drive would be silly lol. SUV hybrids are fine.

Not really. I'm judging it by use. Dublin is a smaller city so I don't need to drive as far. If you're in Sydney you normally have to drive further to get to places etc. That's me talking about hybrids.

I have a separate problem with shitty SUVs that aren't actually SUVs. They are too heavy, too wide and utterly impractical.

I'll say again, I don't drive 230km in a day, ever. The furthest we drive is to the central coast, a whole 65km away. Even if we did that as a round trip in a day and didn't charge while up there that's still 100km less.
